Introduction

Greetings.

I found this site while looking for RPGs on the net. I am of course new so I am therefore unfamiliar with all of your rules. If I do something amiss please bring it to my attention.

I run an online text based RPG and I am always looking for intellectually mature players - the kind of player that thinks before they react and decides upon a plan rather than just kill everything on site.

Welcome to the Dot. We have an extensive FAQ which you might like to read if you're in any doubt about our rules. Your graphical sig might be larger than we allow, but if it is one of the site admins will politely let you know. We like to think we cater to the mature RPG player, (are ther anyother kind!! ) so you should enjoy your stay.

Thanks you Corwin from Down Under. I just took a look at the FAQ for the signature and it seems that I am safe. I am also glad to know there are mature RPGers on here, I am not interested in the teeny bop kind of lingo.

All the Teeny Boppers here have had their brains aged using a completely safe and 100% natural procedure. So you are safe

lol that is good to hear, I would like to know more about this procedure so I can use it on our own forum when those teeny minds come wondering on

By the way, do you have a particular board where one can recruit players?

Generaly people go here to discuss usergroups.

If you want your own dedicated forum section you are going to have to get enough members first and then petition the administrator to create one for you.

No, most general stuff is handled here in the AOT under the VERY watchful gaze of Mistress Val. These forums are meticulously moderated, but only so that everyone can enjoy their visit. For many of us, this is our second home!! So, pull up a bed!!

Thanks for your replies, I must admit that I am surprised and well pleased by both the speed and helpfulness of the members here. I can see why you have it as your second home. I will use it as a 'guest house' for weekend visits when I am not off fighting the Village Dragons and Market Hags who want to steal my gold

Hey hello .

I just took a look at the FAQ for the signature and it seems that I am safe.

Graphical sigs are limited to 3600 pixels in all, which is tiny. Your signature picture, however, is 468x60 = 28080 pixels in size, which is a tad too big - with 11,000+ users bandwidth is a precious resource...
This might change in the near future, but right now 3600 is the allowed maximum, so please change picture size accordingly.

How does pixel size affect bandwidth? I can understand that if you are hosting the image, but since I am hosting my own image it does not affect your bandwidth. The only thing it may affect is the speed at which the page loads for your users, and still that is not based on pixel size, but on image kb size.

I may have misexpressed myself, but I'm sure you understood what I was trying to say. We already cut down on RPGDot-hosted avatar sizes (both pixel and mem size) way back due to bandwidth limitations. Then, for one thing, the site is rather sluggish due to our reaching the limits of what's possible under given circumstances, so as a general rule larger pictures ~even slower loading times. Not everybody cares to compress their pictures, thus quite often a larger pic means more kb... and, if home-hosted, the kilobyte size is far more difficult for us to spot than actual pixel size. Besides, with many users sporting large signatures, the site would look pretty busy... perhaps even shooter-forum busy (and don't get me wrong, I like shooters)...

@ gamemaster:

Its just my oppinion, but I think you should realy tone down the brightness of your sig picture, and get rid of the animation. Its very distracting.

Sig pictures should be very discrete

Jaz, thanks for the follow-up, we understand where you are coming from and totally agree. We do pro web design for a living so these terms are understandable

Chekote just put on some shades.
