Gothic Sound Problem

I have the Gothic demo, I plan on getting the full game after christmas, assuming I can solve this problem.

When I start a game or load a saved game the game almost immediately freezes. Pressing CRTL + ALT + DEL reveals that Gothic is not responding. I have identified that this trouble is sound related. If I change the sound from Miles Fast to something else the sound provider switches back to Miles Fast when I restart the game.

FIX: So far the only way to fix my trouble is to start the game with no sound acceleration. Then quit, I can then play the game with sound acceleration. Something must get written to a file or something the first time gothic is loaded. I can then play gothic as many times as I want in that same windows session. Once I restart my computer I have to do the lot again.

Any ideas?

Are your drivers up to date?

In the gothic.ini is a parameter for the sound provider. Maybe you can set it manually with a text editor.

While you are at it you can also increase the blood details.
