Yes, I know it's a cheesy and pathetic topic (almost as bad as BEST race/class)... but the Forum looked so lonely compared to the Gothic one, so I thought I'd try and get things started.

I liked Elven Fighter/Thief, which is odd because I usually can't stand elves in PnP...

I am conservative - always play the games as human paladin first

As I see this new forum here, I think, I will start BGII (really great game for me) again before I will start Wiz8 second time.

In most CRPGs I find myself torn between sneaky and frontal assault. Tends to get me... killed in various horrific CRPG ways.

But in BG2... well... you can combine a decent fighter with a decent thief without 'blowing' it.

I like Paladins as well, though. Not much sneaky about a sword twice the size of your body.

I alway use fighter/thief too, though I used half-orc in BG 2 so I could start with 19 str.. I love being able to sneek up behind mages, and kill them before they even know I'm there. If you have haste potions a good fighter/thief (in single player of course) can take out groups of enemies by himself, that the entire group would have problems with. And if you have the the cloak of mirroring, then mages can't even touch you, with the exeption being 'maze'. The time when I fought Irinicus before being sent to hell, I only used my fighter/thief character. Which made it confusing when the game sent my entire party to hell, supposedly because they were so injured in the battle, when they spend the entire battle on the other side of the map.

I go with Human Paladin, I played the Cavalier kit in BGII. (no nancy arrows or bows, but bonuses to kill demons and dragons)
I still haven't found the time to buy TOB and play it, I'll probably be 80 years old by then.

I've played as a paladin and as a monk. Liked the latter a lot.
Unfortunately as Rend tends to shift servers a lot and has a gazillion of things he wants to happen I never finished BG2 completely

I like playing as a dual-classed kensai/thief with the expansion pack, because first the kensai kicks everyone's butt. And second, the thief has the wonderful 'use any item' ability. You can cast spells from scrolls and never have to be a wizard or priest. Also your kensai can wear any armor and use any weapon. The Holy Avenger in the hands of a sneaking kensai fighter, need I say more?

I prefer to play as Human Monk, Half-Orc Berserker or Human Sorcerer.

How come nobody here plays as a mage? Don't you people have imagination? And besides, how did you defeat Slayer in your dreams? I summoned a bunch of monsters, and while he was bussy, and hacked him 'till he banished.
I can't imagine how you could win that fight with any other class!

*spoiler*

Are you talking about the dream you have when Irenicus takes your power? The avatar of Bhaal? Easy. Led him on a merry chase through a half dozen traps with my thief. My fighter just pounded the hell out of him.

Well, my cavalier had no problems with the Avatar of Bhaal, but then again, I suppose the avatar qualifies for both the Holy Avenger-to-kill-evil bonus and the cavalier-to-kill-demons bonus.
