Installing Thief gold on windows XP question

Is there any way to install tief gold on win. XP? I get an error part way through that says win. NT has a direct x limitation, and install stops. Do any of you good people know a way around this?
Thanks in advance

I don't know if it helps, but you could install Thief on 9x computer, export registry settings and then copy installed version to xp computer and import registry.

I don't know if it would work (I never had to try) but try running the install program with Win 95 Compatibility settings.

Incase you don't know how...

Right Click on the Setup/Install.exe
Click on Properties
Click the "Compatibility" Tab

You should be able to take it from there.

I found this on some website...Go to Start, then Run, then type d:\setup.exe -lgntforce, where d:\ is your CDrom/DVDrom drive. (note: That's -lgntforce, with a lowercase "L"... easily confused with an uppercase "i" depending on fonts... If you're unsure, copy and paste it from this window.) This problem arises because Win2K and WinXP are based on the NT kernel, which had DirectX support which was flaky at best. Thief needs DirectX to run, so, when the installer sees the NT kernel, it assumes that the game isn't going to be able to run and quits the installation. The -lgntforce switch tells the installer to ignore the NT kernel and install anyway.
P.S. please tell me if this works because I want to get Thief Gold sometime soon...

Provis, Your method worked great. Installs no problem and runs great.
Thanks dude

Gish, Didn't get to your method yet, but will check it out and let you know. Go ahead and pick up the game though.

Totally agree Jaz. I think I've played Thief 1 & 2 through about 5 times each. I wouldn't exactly class them as RPG's, they don't really have a genre, but it's the closest thing perhaps

Thief 3 is the game I'm looking forward to most at the moment. Just hoping the new dev team don't butcher it I don't need another disappointment so soon after MW

What shall I say, the Thief series were - and still are - my favorite games ever. Looking forward to Thief III as well .
