Which crpg to play ?

I want to play computer based rpg but all i see being played are based on medieval stuff, or takes place in fantasy lands. Are there single player, present day, or futuristic rpgs that involves machine guns, drug dealing, hacking, illegal roles and stuff ??

Have you tried Fallout 1 & 2?
Other futuristic rpgs are Anachronox (sp??), Deus Ex and Unreal 2 (more like fps with rp-elements, at least that's what I hear).

Go with the Fallouts. By every measure these are truely great CRPGs.

Fallout 1-2 is the game(s) your are looking for! You might like System Shock 2 too, you get to hack in it.

Definitely: Fallout 1 and 2
Probably: Deus Ex and System Shock2
Possibly: Jagged Alliance 2

The fact that we're all telling you the same games is evidence of their perfect fit, rather than any lack of creativity on our part...

I would not describe unreal 2 as much of a rpg. It is largely a shooter game, sort of an adventure game.

Mafia is sort of in the same category... it includes one other thing in that it is a driving game also.

If you are looking for the classic role playing game type thing such as ultima or baldurs gate etc... I think there really only is the two fallouts.

I see from news an upcoming one is harbinger.

Also aparently Grom is sort of an indiana jones meets diablo sort of thing.

if you don't mind the 'now' dated graphics get the fallout games -- they are absolutely amazing and you can do tons of the stuff you mentioned you wanted to do in your question ...

You should try Anachronox.

The Fallouts have everything you mentioned... the dated graphics are more than made up for by the alien brain splatter critical death with a projectile weapon.

Deus Ex also has all of those things... it's a shooter but it's a shooter with style. And skills. And equipment. And choices that affect the storyline. And good (getting dated) graphics.

I hated deus ex because it's not very atmospheric.

IMO sys shock 2 was WAY better and I recommend it to everyone.

Deus Ex, the Fallouts, and System Shock 2 are great recommendations. Ones that haven't been mentioned include "Omikron" and the soon-to-be-released "Tron 2.0". "Enter the Matrix" might also be a good choice for you when it comes out.

I second the Jagged Alliance 2 recommendation. It's modern day, but you can have an SF game if you want to.

You people seem to love fallouts and deus ex.

Personally i LOVE fallout series. I even played that horrible tactics crap for a while.

And i consider Deus Ex the best game ever made, period. Maybe not THE best, but definitely top 10

Fallouts were just so damn cool ...

And Deus Ex well, I just ordered the game of the year edition to play again (my last copy got um 'kept' by a buddy lol but I don't care). I gotta play through it again before part 2 comes out. Man I can't wait for that game to arrive in the post it was so much fun. Definitely in the top ten. And it is a long and involved game as well.
