surprised about the journal

I have to admit that people's comments about the journal have me a little disheartened. With Morrowind, it's obvious that the non-linearity, open-endedness is a big point to the game, so the journal is uber-important. It sounds like the journal is more similar to Ascension than Baldur's Gate II. It's not good if the journal doesn't seperate completed quests out, that was a huge help in BG2. Oh well... just passing the time until the XBox version comes out.

In a big town like Vivee, you become crazy with so much NPC to talk with the same thing to tell, there are too much topics.

I'm completly lost in this town!!! It's very boring, all the city is similar.
You spend 10 hours to just click on all those damn topics...

Yes, surely if you dislike an unintuitive and cumbersome method of conversing in a RPG then you must secretly like action games more.

As I said earlier, it takes time to properly converse here. If you want a quick "what-you-want-me-to-do" game, play something else. Nothing special about my remark. real RPG takes time. If you hate that, dont play it.

NPC

I for one might agree. Perhaps things that you can talk about should be seperated into catagories ala Wiz8. Like Places, People, Things, Rumors, etc. This isn't altogether unrealistic, as real conversations tend to follow some path or topic. I'm not saying that this needs to happen, and in all likelihood it won't, I just see where you guys are coming from. My best suggestion is to not talk about anything that doesn't interest you. The only thing I talked to NPCs about in most games, are directions, or if I had a particular quest. Don't ask everyone about baking, ask people how to get to the local castle.

I can tell this game is not for me. At least I won't waste the money buying it. From what I have read in these forums, there is lame combat and npc's that are about as fun to talk to as a stop sign. Considering that I enjoy combat in most rpg's this is an important flaw for me. No way to know if the creature is too strong or too weak before you fight it, no way to know how much damage you are doing, no way to know how close to death they are. Sounds pretty boring to me. And everyone says how awful the journal is. You would think that with a game as complicated as Morrowind is they would at least get this part right. As far as the hugeness of the world goes, someone evidently needs to tell the developers that no matter how large the gameworld is, if the world seems dead it doesn't help, rather the size hinders the game. When I get a new computer, Gothic is the game I will be purchasing, not Morrowind.

Play the game before you judge. Combat boring? Yeah right. No way to tell if they are strong? Bullshit. Believe me, after some hours you will KNOW when you are winning. You will KNOW when to run. And the npcs are, IMHO, far better then in Gothic. But to each his own. Gothic is to me a simplified version of MW. Shorter, easier, and less 'deep'. But buy what you like most.

Speaking of the NPC interaction/dialogue, along with what AdvocateX said about Wizardry 8.... I think Wiz8 has an excellent system for speaking with NPC's. You have a keyword list the same as MW, but in Wiz8, it's broken down into categories. Places, People, Items, and Misc which you could select to filter out the keywords. Also, you could choose to "talk about" a subject or ask "where is" a person/place. And, ANY word, or combination of words, could be selected from the dialogue window to question an NPC on. Not to mention that you could type in words the did not appear at all in the dialogue or keyword list. This allows you to question NPC's on subjects that it appears they know nothing about. Several times this opened up new dialogue with NPC's and added a lot of immersion for me!

I think the NPC interaction system in MW is sub-par. It works, I just think it could have been much better. I think MW is a great game and I am having a blast, but I am still playing Wiz8 too, because it does some things better the MW.

Oh, the journal in MW could have been a lot better too. I don't want any of this to sound like bashing, but more as constructive criticism. MW is great and was worth upgrading my vid card to a GF4. It's just some areas are lacking.

I played through Wizardry 8 just before Morrowind was released. The only thing I have against it is the long and boring, totally meaningless fights, forgetting about that, Wizardry 8 is now on my top list. Wizardry 8 must have had one of the most well-wown stories I encountered in a crpg, even on par with the baal-spawn chronicle (baldurs gate). The different races in w8 really meant something. In Morrowind you find out most about races/sects in books, not by talking to people since all npc's really say the same things in the end.

Wizardry 8 is also the game that have taken the longest time for me to run through (except Baldurs Gate 2). I solved all the quests, leaving nothing undone and solved W8 in about 2 weeks of day-night playing. This could be alot becouse the long and endless fights.

Best Regards
