Hello! Haven't posted in here for a loooong time...

I have been marvelling at the Far Cry singleplayer demo since the day it was released and was wondering about the fate of the Gothic III engine. I remember reading that it will have a licensed engine? I sure hope it's CryENGINE

Well I don`t want to be roud but I certainly hope that G3 will not use the Far Cry engine because it won`t be at all suitable for Gothic.....but this is my opinion.

Actually, the G3 engine will not be the Far Cry engine. But they will have the same predecessor...

hwfanatic,

So... Piranha Bytes licensed the CryENGINE for Gothic III and then, of course, heavily modifies it to their liking? Your post was a bit cryptic so that's why I'm asking this...

No, they didn't license the cryENGINE.
You'll have to wait until there's an official statement from PB or until the game is out to get your answer.

The engine originally licensed by PB may or may not appear 'as is' in the finished product... just as you said it will in all probability be highly modified, and chances are the licensed engine code may be taken out altogether and replaced by a 'home-made' new engine before the game is finished. We'll see.

What? I really wish you didn't turn my words around...

There is no official info to what engine will be used as of yet. There are rumors that the engine, which modification was used to make Far Cry, and which name I can not remember right now, will be used. But, one thing should be kept in mind when talking engines, and Jaz hinted you: raw engines, those you pay licence for, are simply clay, and developers most oftenly make something completely different out of it as it suits them...

OK. Thanks for your answers.

Btw, my intention was to not turn your words around, sorry if you got that impression...

My sentiments exactly. After playing Gothic (1), I was in perpetual anticipation for G2. I'm honestly in shock as how a game like this can be largely ignored. There are plenty games that suck royally selling millions and an PB is struggling.. Gothic is the best stuff I've ever played.

Gothic 3??

my question is, do they really need a new graphic engine? I mean the graphic in gothic 2 is definatly good enough for me. Ofcourse I would love to see even better.

But the graphic is not what makes the gothic games so great. Ofcourse it'll probably help to bring Gothic to a wider public if it has kick-ass graphics. Sad but true.

Jaz...Has PB asked you not to talk about the engine? My gut feeling is CC but I am often wrong.

Letīs just say the decision is as logical as it is unspectacular.
