Does this mean you will soon be applying for membership in PETA
I can just see it now, you'll be parading up and down infront of the Blizzard offices with a placard reading "Electronic Animals are People Too" |

What, and interupt my rampant destruction of pixelated monsters, people, and animals in the quest for one more skillpoint or level?
DM: "You are walking through the forest. Twilight is approaching. To your left a small family of deer raise their heads, startled at your intrusion into --"
KillKrazedKaracter:"I kill them."
DM: "What?"
KKK: "I kill them. The deer. Fireball."
DM: "But they're just deer!"
KKK: "Look, they've got CRs and I've got a fireball. *rolls dice* There. 31 damage to the deer."
DM: "Fine. Startled at your gutteral arcane voice, the deer prepare to bolt..."
KKK: "I got initiative."
DM: "I know, I know... To no avail. With a final arcane cry and a flick of the wrist you turn the twilight into a second dawn as a massive ball of fire fills the glade. Animals shriek and take flight as the fireball ignites the forest...."
KKK: "Kewl. I want XP from anything that dies in the fire cuz I set it."

@ Yog - What's scary is it's not fiction! Or it might not be fiction
I have had to deal with gamers like that ... they don't last long in my games (the Druid of the forest takes exception to the wonton destruction, and lays a cunning trap for KKK or other equally neat sol'ns).
@ EverythingXen - kewl story, I can identify.
So when are you starting your protest? |

Oh, I've PLAYED characters who would fireball a deer for the sheer enjoyment of fireballing a deer. But I wouldn't ask for anything for it except the druid to show up so I could kill him/her too. Much fairer.
Look at my title. Look at my pic. I am NOT a merry man in tabletop. I play cold, calculating villains given to bursts of maniacal rage when pushed in so called 'evil campaigns' or when I'm the DM. I wrote a net handbook called 'So You Want to Be a Fantasy Villain' (long lost along with all the novellas and short stories and such I wrote in the Crash and Backup Disk failure that made me give up being an author in despair).
No, I am no angel (I always play in character)... but the character in the example was a lawful good evoker on his way to meet the party to raid a wyvern's lair. The sad part was when the player tried to justify his actions when I changed his alignment to Chaotic Neutral on him.
In response I threw a good aligned robe of the archmagi into the treasure pile of the wyvern to watch him squirm and protest when the party, knowing that there was something wrong with their wizard when the robe refused his touch, gave the robe to their good aligned wizard council patron and looked at him funny the rest of the adventure. The paladin and ranger in particular (who investigated the fire later on and found evidence of a magical blaze caused by a humanoid creature).
He shaped up. Nothing like 'losing' one of the most powerful items in the game (it wouldn't have been there had he stayed in character. It was an object lesson. ) to snap him out of power-munchkin mode. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Very good story!
I had forgotten how devious one must be. The last group I played with (for about six years) was really tame. |

Everyone in my group is between 24 and 26 so it's not a big problem. This guy was one of the gals little brothers (16) who suddenly found his entire gaming experience turned upside down when I and the other DMs (we rotate. Don't get anywhere with any game as a result. ) enforced consquences for actions. Imagine that.
BUt he mostly shaped up. Now he just plays paladins so he can charge evil screaming and get away with going crazy and hewing the legions of the unholy.
It's a step up from fireballing deer, so I'm happy. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi
