Possible problem on RPGDot

Today i tried to get on the boards many times and it sayed that this page doesn't exsist and some PHP error and some others .. it seems that the problem is gone now but RPGDot forums still need long time before they open. I asked ScOut3R if he has the same problem and he said that he has the same problem.

I will look and if it repeats i will copy the text that it says ...

The 'culprit' is the 'Black Isle Demise' article of earlier today. Since the news about this article appeared on other websites, we had an enormous influx of visitors wanting to read it... at times too many for the database to handle.
So... no real need to be alarmed. We're just getting more attention than the server can take!

I was alarmed, too, but then I saw that we had - at times - more than 200 people at the same time accessing the site. We are back to a healthy 132 the moment I write this. Anything above 170 will bring problems, and we could only solve them with a cluster of servers, which we don't have and which I can't pay for.

Just to give you the dimensions of the influx: Normally, we have about 8000 - 10000 visitors a day, generating app. 30.000 - 40.000 pageviews. Today, after just 16 hours, we have 17.000, despite the problems we had with our site.

We were the first to report about the demise of BIS, and slashdot linked to us - something our server didn't handle too well.

But it seems it's better by now.

I guess it's nice to be popular, but wow. That's what kept me out this am. I guess it broke all the records then.

Yes i experienced the problem too. I suspect it was because the news of BIS demises - eventhough the question "is really that many people coming here?" keep popping up from my head.

Nice job, Dhruin, for the fast news on BIS - now RPGdot is getting more attention... Just recently i also notice the number of forums members increased greatly compare to couple years ago.

Hmm .. Nice thing to be popular.

Everything is ok now. That's good. Because i got my usergroup yesterday and i thought that it is that what caused the problem here. I was so relieved when i read this post.

I have to acknowledge that the excellent Fallout site "No Mutants Allowed" shared some information with me and deserve a lot of the credit.

Thought I'd just use this thread. Is there a problem with the boards or is it me. I do a mark topics read or post a reply and I get a Failed to open something message and a strange setup on the screen. I caught that it was failure to open and something about Divinity Skin I think and then line 117. It goes off so fast I can't get it all.

Ariel is trying out some template stuff and made a small mistake in one of the files. It's fixed now.
