The guy at the castle in the Valley of Mines is a master crossbowman. It's the guy who stands on the wall by the ram... I fail to remember his name. First you must talk to the guard who sells magical scrolls though, so he recommends the crossbowman... then go to the crossbowman and say that you're the best crossbowman... that'll provoke him to start teaching you.

Gestath is camping with Gorn on the hill beneath the lizardman citadel.
