dual class, need advice

I'm got my second lvl up and i'm thinking about dual classing.

I'm a fighter (2).
for the first skill i choose point blank shot.
so i will choose rapid shot now.

But i think about dual classing to a ranger.
If i do that i get 2 extra skills: dual- wield and track less step.
And i get another thing that is Favored Enemy: (Gobinoids recommended)
and still can take rapid shot.

If i choose ranger they recommend to put points in Animal Empathy.
Is that wise or should i stay more a fighter.
Should i dual class at this point
With what favored Enemy?

Thanks.

Remeber, a ranger on gets Dual-Wield in Light armor, whereas the feat Dual-Wield is in any armor. Keep that in mind, light armor doesn't help a fighter...

I would be a fighter (2) ranger (1). With a dual wield skill.
How does that skill count then?

One more question: is there a perfect lvl to go dualclassing?
Is it better to go dualclas from fighter to ranger early on or later?

Sorry Xerox I'm in a bit of a rush atm to talk about when to multiclass but I can help with this bit. You would only be able to duel weild effectively (i.e without huge penalites) as a ranger in light armour. You didn't use a fighter feat spot to take either ambidexerity or Duel weild so you only have these skill due to you ranger level therefore you must abide by the ranger restrictions.

Hope this helps.

Multiclass is best done at low levels according to my pontifical friend. I thought
ranger could wear medium armor. You should still be able to dual wield in medium armor. Also racial enemies, I'd go for something tougher. I took humans with my monk/ranger combination. In addition if you take weapon finesse, probably not likely since you are a fighter, your dex bonus would apply to your off hand qualifying weapon. There are also some great light armors. The shadow legion armor is one. I think point blank combined with rapid shot is also a good idea. Later you can get a comp bow that uses you strength to apply your bonus, and you will be an awesome bow man. Then when the monsters reach you, you switch to your dual wield weapons at cut them down.
Looks like a good plan from here.

I went with undead for my first favored enemy. It really helped in the Beggar's Nest. Although, taking humans would be an equally good favored enemy.
I've never had much use for the Animal Empathy ability. My animal companion was usually enough to have around.

I'm not necessarily recommending this, but rangers get an extra attack at the ninth level if they are dual wielding, provided of course you are using only light armor.

Finesse works only on Light weapons (small and tiny if you're normal sized and tiny only if you're small sized).

Multi Classing

In your case I would not multi class as being a first level ranger will not help your fighter side very much. Rangers have to be level 6? or so to get spells also so you don't get those either very early. I multiclassed a Rogue Ranger and just found that the Ranger side was very unused. I used to love playing a Ranger in pen and paper D@D but for some reason it has lost it's charm in Neverwinter so far. By the way where does a Ranger learn spells at? I'm playing a human\fighter now and he kicks tail! ? Very enjoyable to play, just wade in and smash. Traps, just run em over. In the Campaign worrying about traps is a waste of time so far, Chap 2.. In other modules though it could be very important. I take Tomi out but he keeps dying on me, lol. My Rogue kicked but but I like the fighter better. Not sure if spells are very useful in this game. The scrolls I cast as a Rogue were next to worthless.. I was down on this game at first but it's growing on me. Would like to play Chap 3 with someone who hasn't played it online. Let me know...

I haven't even finished chapter 2 in singleplayer. I've been too busy testing modules for the Euro NFG NWN gaming group.

Don't bother going ranger because as a fighter you are going to get so many freakin extra feats you will be able to run around with 2 weapons just like a ranger but you can wear heavy armor with only have to use 3 feats, and with a fighter that is nothing. The only thing good about rangers is their animal companions which is actually a really cool thing but pure fighter classes rock since you can do so much more. Just keep in mind improved 2 weapon fighting when you hit level 9. That means when you are like lv 16 you will get 6 attacks per round. If you are going to dual class though, go some kind of non-fighter type like a cleric so you can have spells, rangers and fighter are just to similar, you won't get the cool upper level extra attacks and things like that if you combine them.

One additional advantage to a ranger is more skill points. Not a lot more, 2 per level, but it allows you twice as many skill levels (with IQ 10).

You also get the "woodland step" feat (or some such) allowing increased stealth in woodland areas. I have not found that much use for it in the SP campaign, but with a custom module ....

A couple of the spells are also useful (on occasion, like Ultravision and dispel Invisibity), but you'd have to get a goodly number of ranger levels to use them, and you can get the same spells by being a cleric or druid much faster.
