Is there a way to forge better weapons? All I can do is the standard forged sword.

I played Gothic 1 so fast after gothic 2 just to see what happened so I never didin't learn to forge. was it even possible? talked few smiths and nobody teached anything. well one gave some hint at old camp outer ring but it didn't even wrote down to diary

nope that is the only sword you can forge in G1 for better swords play G2

In Gothic II there are 3 people who can teach you how to forge weapons:
Harad (one of the craftsmen in Khorines, you can take up apprenticeship with him).
Bennet (the smith on Onar's farm)
Jan (a dragonhunter in chapter 4 in the VoM castle, if you get Garrond to alloy him as a smith.)  |
