I heard a lot about ultima online, but what do you buy? Do you have to buy the original and all the expansions? Or does the most current EXP have all the older versions in it?
No, you can't buy *just* buy the expansion. They don't have the whole client on their CD, and usually they don't have a valid CD-key for you to use to register the game. But you shouldn't have to buy all the expansions. You should be able to find a set of the game that will include all previous expansions along with the game itself. But there's a big chance that the latest expansion will only be available on its own. So that means that you would need to buy two boxes, and you'll get a free month of play.

and i also heard that many people play on player-run servers, what's that all about?
Not sure if that's legal with UO, but a player-run server is a particularily resourceful gamer that built up a rig of his own and is running the game in "host" mode. That essentially means that you could log on to his server instead of the official EA servers and play there. This also means that you probably have no support for the game, don't have access to the latest patches, and the world is probably underpopulated. On the flip side, it would be free to play (no monthly fee). As I said though, as far as I know these player-run servers are illegal. _________________ =Proud Father of a new gamer GIRL!=

Hyrrix, thanks for the info... so you are going to keep us all up to date? that will be great..... i went and looked at istaria.com after reading the thread, and it looks really cool. I am really impressed by the depth of the tradeskill possibilities. I have never really gotten into playing the crafting characters, but i may have to give it a try here... |
