Morrowind keeps locking up, please help! |
|
I was having a problem with the game freezing up on me usually right after character creation, thought maybe it was my sound card. So I wen't and got updated drivers for it. That didn't help, so I yanked it out, and now I'm using onboard sound.
Now I get anout 20 minutes (Rarely) of gameplay before I get a total lockup ctrl+alt+del dosen't work and I have to manually power off my system. Here are my specs:
AMD Athalon XP 1600+ (1,400mhz)
128MB DDR RAM
GeForce 4 ti4400
Windows 2000 Server
Any help would be apreciated. Thanks in advance.

Wow, that's quite a long time with no reply..I really thought one of our more technical savvy folks would have tried to help you by now...
Alas, I'm pretty damn useless when it comes to talking configuration optimalizations and stuff...Have you tried to contact tech support? I know it may be a while before hearing back from them, but at least then you would have an email into someone who could most likely help you out...
My sincere apologies for your troubles...a crying shame to have that game and not be able to enjoy it.. _________________ Member of the "Fantastic ONE"

I was going to email tech support but I figured they would be very overloaded so it wouldn't do me any good for at least a week. It's locking up on me more frequently now. I get about 1minute into the game and bam.. lockup. I have no clue what it could be, I have tried everything the people have been told to do for "crash to desktop" problems.
I was even thinking about formatting and installing windows xp, thats still an option. I wen't and got a brand new gfx card just for this game and I can't even use it. This bites, hopefully I will be able to resolve this issue.

I cant really think of anything right now, but this is the site I go to when I am stumped with tech problems : www.techimo.com If you give a good description of the problem and your system specs including driver versions, and OS and what not they usually give good advice. I believe you have to register there first though. |

128mb RAM? don't u think it's a little bit on the low side since u're running Win XP? min should be 256mb RAM. MW needs 128mb min so i think this should be the problem since u don't even have enough memory to run Win XP smoothly.
also hv u tried upgrading yr GCard driver to v28.32. i did that last nite and got out 2120 from 3Dmark2001 from the previous 2093 on v23.11.
my spec is P3 933Mhz, 320mb SDRAM, 32mb GF2MX. a monster spec 1 yr ago but now ... |

Well I got 128MB of DDR RAM so I think that should be ok, it runs without a hitch at the highest res with 4x AA on, while it runs that is. pakaraatzi thanks for the link, I'm going to give it a shot. Hope I can get this thing going. Also Spawnster75 I'm not running XP I'm running 2KServer, I was thinking 2KServer was the problem and maybe I should install XP. Maybe go back to 98se.... whatever will get this game working is fine with me hehe. |

128 MB of DDR is still 128MB.Just because its DDR does not mean its equal to 256 MB of SDR ram .The only thing that is different is the transfer rates you still need more ram to store textures run multiple applications etc..
Im not saying this is your problem it could many different things but if your running XP or 2k and using 128MB of ram it can cause crashes to desktop when resoures get low. |

The minimum RAM listed on the box for 2000/xp is 256, so that would be your peoblem. Time to spend another $65 on another stick of 128 DDR... |

Yes, it is not enough RAM. It will simply not run MW and XP together.
DDR = quicker, but it doesnt mean that game that requires 256 will work fine with 128 if it is DDR.
128 is not enough for XP alone. |
