Starting mage char. help.

I'm going to pick this game up tonight and I've been reading up on the different mage skill paths. What I'm wondering is what is a good skill path to start with?

I don't have a lot of time to play games anymore so unfortunatly I can't experiment until I get it right. I really like playing summoner type mages so I will want to pursue that eventually but I want to start with a skill path that will allow me not to get my ass kicked around to much at first.

Any mages out there care to comment on the mage skills in DD?

You can pick any skills from the three paths. Your starting character selection only influences how your secondary stats are increased.
