SW: KotOR (PC) Tips/Tricks/Strategies Thread (Spoilers!)

Hi Everyone,

Please post whatever tips/tricks/strategies that you have for SW:kotor over here.
(This thread may include spoilers so read at your own risk!)

Let me start off:

1) Save your level till you are about to die in a battle. You will regain full health after levelling up. This is very useful as sometimes, you just do not have the time to take medpacks or whatever before you die.

2) Use the transit button(if its available) back to your base when you are in need of healing as you will regain full health everytime you go back to base. This will save you a number of medpacks and you can just do a transit back after that.

3) Not sure if everyone knows this but in the swoop racing, just hit the spacebar a few times to accelerate more.

One tip (for any RPG) that's rarely mentioned, but which is very important here, is to carefully PLAN out your character in advance, so you know what you need to do at each possible level up.

When playing PAZAAK: if you win 10 times in a row you will get cool item from the opponent.

specific tips...
at the pit fights, you can equip and activate sheilds, adrenaline boosters and battle shot (or whatever its called) BEFORE a fight and they will be active for the duration... if your running low on hp pause, cancel all attacks and use a medpack, 9 times out of 10 you will use it before the enemy strikes you again... if enemy has a blaster run towards enemy with melee weapons, if they have a melee weapon shoot them a few times as they run towards you and right as they are on top of you pause and switch...

last deul is fukin hard so i suggest using ALL these tips if you have trouble.

pazaak is easy if you try to play your opponent into using his side deck early on, this means sticking at high numbers (eg 17 18 19), opponent will most likely waste sidecards, the chances of his side deck being sufficient to 'beat' you more than twice is low, and most likely opponent will draw even.. once opponent has used side deck he is yours for the easy picking.

dont sell upgradable items, it seems like a great idea at the time, but soon as you find upgrades and wanna use em you gotta fork out loads more for it back, in which case look at selling such items as a loan for quick cash, intrest being high, and for gods sake remember where you sold it.

sell off computer spikes and spare parts, they are abundant and get a great price, when you actually need them the money to buy em back will be of no consequence as more money making opportunities will have arisen.

dont scatter attribute points and feat points, a balanced character is nowhere near as good as a specialist, but tend to make your main character more of a balanced character overall.

every time an opportunity for a fight comes up take it, in the early stages fights that get handed to you are easy to win, except for the bounty hunter one, leave him alone hes cranky

Some good tips here. One more important one; talk to your NPC's a LOT to open up several profitable side quests. Oh, while I think of it, frag and plasma greades work well on Rancors.

I am not a big Star Wars fan, sorry . But I love rpgs and will buy this game.I don't have a clue how to plan a character due to my being Star Wars challenged. Can I just play and learn as I go? Or is a knowledge of Star Wars Universe almost a must have? \
edit; $50 is alot, but on the other hand I fell for the Halo hype. THAT was money wasted.
for an idea of my most funnest(sic) games;Wizadry8,WarlordsBattlecry 2, Diablo w/ expansion(LOD), all NWN games and some mods, Divine Diovinity, HAlf Life Classic. More but you get the idea.

Knowledge of the Star Wars universe is unnecessary to play this game.

Planning a character, means knowing how you want that character to develop. You begin with a choice of 3 classes, you need to think about that. Later you will have a choice of 3 Jedi classes, all of which are slightly different. Do you level your first class, thus giving you fewer Jedi levels, or do you hold your first class to max out Jedi levels? Are you going Light or Dark side? Which powers, skill, feats do you want/need etc. This is what I mean by planning your character in advance so you don't get to a point in the game where you find you can't do what you'd like to do.

One little tip. If you want to make much money simply sell everything on Yavin IV. You will get the best prices for everything. If you don't know the trader on Yavin 4 sells the best weapons and armors. And if you beat him ten times in Pazaak ,he will sell his goods even cheaper.

On planning your characters development:

Put points into Wisdom, makes your force powers much more effective. Kickass Force powers are much more effective than being a gun toting brute.

Dont bother buying Feats for your main character that involve ranged combat. Eventualy you'll be swinging a light saber so blaster skills are useless. Let your buddies do the shooting.

Get either a high level of Peruade(and high Charisma) or Affect Mind (force power) as early as you can. It can be extremly helpfull to have those extra options when talking to npcs.

Dont bother getting the lighsaber throw power. There are more effective powers; and you cant block blaster bolts if youve thrown your lighsaber away.

Dont bother getting higher level armor Feats for your main character. When you become a Jedi you wont be wearing any of that stuff.

Computer skill is so handy I consider it a must. Stealth is effective. I think Awareness is useless, I never once encountered a stealthed foe.

Misc.:

Dont let your inventory get cluttered. Sell that stuff! You can cash in big time.

Save often (should go without saying).

Dont worry about treating your npc team mates like trash - they'll never abandone you (not until near the end of the game anyway).
