It was originally called "BlinkingDot.com" and I first encountered it in...mid 1999?

BLINKINGDOT??!! Thank God they have changed the name.

Was it also a game site like rpgdot, because a site with the name BlinkingDot gives me some very weird ideas.

Hehe, check here...

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.blinkingdot.com (need to copy/paste entire URL to browser... seems like forums don't like the URL format)

... but be aware that you have to check links from before 2002 to see what the old network looked like (Wayback Machine/Webarchive does not save all pics/info so it's not 100% accurate). Rendelius, the founder of BlinkingDot/RPGDot, later surrendered BlinkingDot in favor of the RPGDot domain.

Mid 1999 is not so far off at all. I found on the blinkingdot site that it was founded in August 1999.

Well, actually it started a little bit earlier. Blinkingdot was founded as a Xoom site early 1999, and it was meant to be rporting about our efforts to create a 3D .hack variant. Since progress on that game was slow (and soon nonexistent), I decided to add some RPG news to my site to attract more visitors.

Well, you see what happened then *g*.

PS: I had app. 50 pageviews in the first month, 50 pageviews a day in the third month and 50 pageviews an hour after a year or so. Where is RPGDot at now? Last figure I know was app. 30.000 pageviews a day on average - but that was more than 18 months ago...
