Finally bought this game

Yes, another Gothic newb. I remember when this game first came out and it was just a blip on the radar screen. Another game was treated this way called Anachronox and it is one of the best games I have ever played. So, did a little research and talked to some people who have the game, and also lurked here a bit and decided to go for it. It seems the reviewers now days don't have the best interest of the gamer at heart. It looked like a friendly community so I grabbed a copy.
Just installed it last night so obviously I haven't got far but I can tell I will definately finish this game. Great atmosphere in the hour or so I have played. The graphics scared me a little at first until I realized it was running at 640X480 lol. Pumper the res up and it looks really good. If there are any critical things I can do to screw up or gimp my guy let me know!
Again, great community and so far, great game.

Welcome to the boards!
Beware the winches! Do not touch a winch unless you have the quest to be in that area. And, keep your options open.

Ah, a new face . Welcome. You needn't even pay me 10 ore...

Right, don't touch winches unless you have to, and please refrain from killing named NPCs. Otherwise, do as you please and learn to live with the consequences.

A few people reported about corrupted savegames when leaving one of the dungeons. So you might want be prepared to go back to an older save if this happens to you.

Make 2 save slots and don't invest in sneaking or pickpocketing.

Oh, and welcome to the Boards.

I had six different saves going. One before I decided on A camp. The others I just staggered them incase I made A mistake. also I would learn the hunting skills as soon as possible, otherwise you will be losing alot of ore.

I didīnt do that. I just putted everything on strength and beat down the smith in OC. Then I got a crude sword. I went to the NC and beat down the traders. Then I went back to the OC and beated down fisk. I had alot of money then. When I joined a camp I beated down Lares and got aa axe with 65 in damage. So basicly I had more then 2000 ore and a great weapon.

You need him to guide you around the camp at least once, though. It's quest related.

I've never heard of the 'Lester bug'... at least, there.

If you want to join the Sect camp, he HAS to guide you to at least ONE spot so that you can talk to him about setting up the conversation to make Baal Namib say that you are worthy to join the Sect camp
