Still a crashbug with dying?

I remember asking a while back about the game puking if I got killed. During the "load last save" sequence, it would toss me to desktop. Now, with my new rig and everything all cranked up, I'm having more trouble. As soon as I hit 0 HP, I get tossed to the desktop. I'm running the latest patch (1.2.0722). Naturally, I try to limit the number of times this situation comes up , but (since I started over) my character's still a little grunt. Is dying still a crash bug, or do I have an unusual situation to look into, perhaps from getting carried away with my video settings?

From what i read from many Morrowind's player, the CTD happen under several different situations. In my case it only happen when i played several hours, or loading my game repeatly....Overall it seldom happen. Some player experienced it more often.

If the problem really annoying, the only way i think is one by one isolating the cause - for example first change/tweaking the graphic setting, if everything else failed then move on to reinstallation or tweaking sound setting, then if the game still CTD, move on again to other things that could be tinker with...

Maybe make a visit to technical forum at official site?
Oops! the official site are off recently.

When I asked the question earlier, I was told there was a bug that caused the "reload" sequence to fail for lots of people on a regular basis. Now I don't even get to that point, but it's still part of the same "program subroutine". Since I don't plan on dying ever again , I probably won't actively search for an answer. I was just curious if anyone had heard rumors. I've only had one other CTD with my new rig, during a battle, so I think I'm probably OK for stability. For completeness though-
Athlon XP 1800, 512MB PC2700 RAM, GF3ti200 128MB with 30.82 drivers, onboard sound.

One of these days I need to figure out how to enable the frame rate counter, but I can give you a qualitative answer for now-

WOW

I've got all the settings at 75% or more and it's smoooooth.

Probably should have mentioned that I'm running WinXP now, too.

Thanks, not very specific but it'll have to do. You can see your fps in two ways:

1. Type 'ctd' (without ') in the console (key under esc `/~). You'll see a lot of text, the number right top is fps.

2. Open morrowind.ini in notepad, and change showfps=0 in showfps=1. It will add a nice little fps counter right bottom.

Ai dist: 75%
View Dist: 90%
real time shadows: 50%
1024x768

Outdoors in Balmora: 7 - 30, usually around 15
Indoors in Balmora (Council Club): 40 - 70, usually around 50
Small, unoccupied room in Balmora (storehouse): 120 - 130

I haven't done any of the tweaks people have mentioned here, like reducing the max framerate and such. I probably will do a tweak or two eventually just to see what happens.

You know, the biggest difference for me probably isn't the framerate increase, though. With my old rig, the load time between regions was up to 5 seconds. I think the worst I've seen with my new one is 2 seconds and it's usually less than 1. When the game freezes for 5 seconds and you sit watching the progress bar crawling across, it really chops up the experience.
