Sex sells. So why would it not help boost sales for games thet have almowst nothing or very little to do with sex. I mean, take Baldur's Gate 2, for instance, you have all those chicks in the party fighting over you, just to get you in bed. This is supposed to make the game more interesting. In Gothic there's a poster with undressed chicks thet are unrelated to the game. And there are examples. What do you guys think? Is sex used to boost RPG sales too? |

Yes, I think so. There was sex in Wizards and Warriors too. |

Even if the game designers don't think of putting sex into their game, you can bet money that they have a marketing department that thinks of it for them.
It depends on what demographic they are trying to sell their game to. They will put into the game whatever they think will draw the most consumers in. Whether it be violence, sex, an interesting story, Michael Jordon or Barbie, they are looking to make a product sell to their targeted demographic. Commercialism is great, eh? |

Heaven forbid, of course sex doesn't sell - that is why you see so little of it in mainstream advertising .

how about sex without the commercial side,or the "dark side" that the "dark good moral" allways like to connect that word with? How about characters with a correct anatomy? And the possibility of building a virtual relation with another character with all that this implies, like getting married and making love, having kids, building a house/home etc etc. Baldurs Gate comes to mind and its a good example of a game where this could be implemented.Project ego is another.I personaly think that this can have a good side, without all those (perfectly normal )thoughts like how can i see the girl (gothic) naked. |

Isn't that what the Sims are about? |

never played the sims, but i don`t think that`s the same thing. what i would like to see in a game for instance baldur`s gate or icewind is the possibility of building a house where i could go to rest, defend it etc etc.that could work like a side quest and i think it would get a better feeling of imersion into the world the feeling of truly belonging there.Like taking a bath to relax or just take a walk between quests, gothic was good at this. |

Talk about correct anatomy and making love in games: GTA3 seems to have pissed a few people off for including that. They say you can go to a bith, do her, and afterwards you can pay her for her services or you can just kill her. That's a game i'd like to play. (by including sex and violence they have their fair share of fans - they don't even need advertising, because governments solve the problem by forbidding the game, thus making it more desirable). So... can't wait to get my hands on it! |

Have you tried Ultima Online? I hear they have some of these things in that game, plus it's never ending due to the multiplayer feature. But then again who wants to pay a monthly fee for a simulated fantasy life?
I think I heard Morrowind will have stuff like that and you'll probably be able to create stuff like that if Neverwinter Nights tool-set is everything they say it is. I guess we'll have to wait and see what game developers cook up next. |

Morrowind won't have sex or nudity out of the box, but it's possible to add stuff like that into the game with the editor. |

Oh lovely, I can see the newspaper headline now: Teens create nudist colony in virtual world; parent groups and Joe Lieberman outraged! |

Yeah, Lieberman(a U.S. Senator for our foreign friends here who may not know) already held up a copy of Daggerfall in front of the U.S. Senate and said alot of bad(and untrue)things about it. I don't want to see him freak out over Morrowind too. God help us if he ever became president. He might shut down Bethesda forever. Although there are worse people who could become president, like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. I'd pick Lieberman over them anytime.

I think it's nice when you find sexuality somewhere that you don't expect it, like a videogame. It's one thing when you see it on the internet, or have a subscription to playboy, but when it surprises you that's when it's best.

Yes, I find it nice to see sexual references somewhere unexpected, but i really don't appreciate abuse of such references, since nowadays you find them not only where they are not expected, but also where they are not needed, or, worse where they are unwelcome. |
