Salem "Strings Attached"
This is an unbelievable cd! grabbed it outta the bargain bin for 8 bucks, since I saw the "strings attached" name, thought it would be some good new symphonic metal to get into. I was right, it's great!
Decent heavy metal with a string quartet accompaniment
Different from the norm in some ways tho. For one, the female vocals that accompany the songs are just that , they accompany and accent, they never lead or are ever truly dominant. Secondly, they range fron a sort of base "rock female" vocal style to sort of a church choir style harmony. In other words, they dont have female singers who seem to be trained classically, so there is no lofty and powerful operatic female vox that grace bands such as Therion, Tristania, Nightwish, etc. Instead, for female sections needing some flourish, they just seem to stack ten of them up and combined they supply a decent harmony. But it works, they do a great job.
But beware, there is quite a lot of death-style rasping and what not, and the music does reach pretty hardcore levels later in the cd. But it is one of many style present in this cd, halfway thru there is a burst of sort of "alternative" style in the mix, but it works as well. Just a good all-round cd, but from the looks of it, its pretty hard to find

@VPEric - If you like "The Tower", you need to score that cd it's on, "Chemical Wedding" by Bruce Dickinson if you dont already have it, it's an excellent cd. I cant recomend it enough. It's one of those cds where every song is good. Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden also joins him on that cd, so that's why youll hear alot of maiden-esque dual guitar action. Also, the "Accident of Birth" cd is alot like Chemical Wedding. Both well-written and very very heavy.
However, those two cds are the only ones where he sort of "returns to the dark metal formula" that has reaped him such success in the past, and that he is really truly good at. His other solo experimental outings such as the utterly embarrassingly pop "tattooed millionaire" and the so-so sci-fi based "skunkworks" and quasi-political "balls to picasso" hard rock are best skipped unless you have a very open mind, and an easily accessible bargain bin. I like them all personally, but I'm a Bruce fanatic so they all grew on me. All except, um, "tattooed millionaire"... BLecH! HORRIBLE!
