grody! Guess i missed that one , Toaster

Pantera's "Far Beyond Driven"

You know, I think I read somewhere Darrell was iced on the same day Lennon was. Trippy, this could end up being another Kennedy/Lincoln thing in the making. Nostradamus didnt happen to mention anything about panthers, axes, or Texas did he?

Anyway, ive got my Diamond/Dimebag Darrell tribute going on here too while I smack down some onery Firbolgs and the like. Listening to the buzzsaw grind of Pantera's "Far Beyond Driven".

This must be how all the hippies felt back when Lennon was gunned down, you know, just "seriously bummed about it, man". No really, I'm not going to get too bent out of shape about it or lose any sleep, but sure it bums me out. I didnt know the man personally, and it's not like he was some kindhearted little Ma Theresa type do-gooder who was just a wonderful being that uplifted all he met or something. He was a stoner, and a damn good guitar playin stoner at that. Easily one of the least-credited, yet most influential metal guitarists ever been.

Am I bummed? Well sure, but Im more bummed actually when I think about how and what he accomplished will not even really be appreciated by the general public. Yeah, its not hard to reason why with such harsh music, but hey, Eminem is pulling big awards aint he?? Yep, were going to see on tv of course, the media doll of the year "Usher" or Eminem or some such moron drag his knuckles across the stage to grab another 20 awards from the other group of middle-aged phonies who prolly never even listened. Just like years past, groups (if you can even call them that) like "Outkast" grabbing as many awards as the phonies crowd can throw at them.

When jokers like Outkast and Eminem are walking away with a bunch of Grammys, and people like Darrell get no respect for their work, it's a real statement about what American music has become.People think cd sales are down because of pirating? Sure, there is some of that, but the other reason is that new music flat-out sucks! Watch the miserable ratings of the Outkast and Usher love fest awards, and youll see why sales are down.

He might have been a flake, but he was a truly brilliant musician. He was one of the catalysts that brought real, powerful, majestic heavy metal back to life with Pantera. Darrell had a just sort of controlled chaos type of playing, that went from just tear-jerkingly somber, to precise industrial buzzsaw, to flat out hellish and scary.

Just wish it couldve been like Fred Durst or something. Is that wrong for me to say? Well, I think it's quite reasonable to want to trade the life of one of the men who helped revitalize metal, with one who helped destroy it again.

Heh, does everybody hate him? I don't like the "latest" Limp Bizkit but it doesn't stop me from listening to the good old stuff from "Three dollar bill, yall$" and "Significant other". What's that about him destroying metal?
Hmm, I've never considered Limp Bizkit a metal band. If I want metal then I listen to something else than LB.

Listening now: Fear Factory - Martyr

Too bad for this Darrell guy. It's a strange thing that people get shot for music.

tHE Cramps - "Dames, Booze, Chains and Boots"

hilarious!

Kryzchu-
I was kinda ribbing poor ol' Durst, he is just such an easy target, but I dont wish the little spud any harm. He's turned into just such a dork lately, it's easy to rag on him. But the real animosity he generates from old timers such as myself is due to him being one of the harbingers, if you will, of the "rap metal" explosion that we so despise.

Am I and other who feel this way just taking all this wayyy too freakin seriously? Sure we are, but hey nobody ever said metal was nice, or for that matter, even rational ='.'=

Yanni is the most boring singer ever in the history of earth. To me, at least.

As for myself, I'm listening to my Rome: Total War army crush the crap out of another army. Ah, victory.

In the early '80s, that would have passed for Industrial music.

The hilarity was not lost on me when they started playing that song at the DNC. Sure, they changed "retarded" to "started", but they kept the rest of the lyrics the same.
