Yes, it does. It really suits a patient gamer and favours the trading aspect. I played for about 25 hours before a single combat (although I could have gone looking for a fight earlier, had I desired).

v1.1 patch was released today and is a must-have for anyone playing X2. There are no mirrors - you must be a registered X2 forum user with your game registration details entered to access it @ www.egosoft.com .

Thanks for the heads-up. Now, the question is whether to restart one final time (even though it isn't necessary)...

The patch actually makes it a little harder in some ways by reducing the profit from energy cells a little, so unless your current game just isn't working out I'd keep it. The patch "cleans" faults from any savegames as you load them.

Is it just me, or is it best to ignore the main story? Well, perhaps not ignore, but drop out pretty quickly. Maybe the special thing the Goners sell has some value, but since I don't intend to get into combat if I can avoid it that "special thing" might not have much value. Seems the reward from TerraCorp is the only thing that's critical.

Your thoughts?

Yep...stopped after doing the broken gate and plan to go back to it and finish in one go when I have 4 or 5 SPPs going, a fully spec'ed Nova M3 and a nice collection of captured pirate and Xenon ships in the hangar.

Do you know of any reason NOT to use the autopilot to do the docking approaches for me?

Nope. I use it 100% of the time. In fact, if I know where I'm going, I target off the sector map as soon as I jump in, switch on the auto-dock and hit the Seta button.

question again...

I've looked around on my own and come up empty. Do you know of a chart that shows the production requirements for all the various products in the game? For example, I found a factory out in the middle of nowhere making sun flowers (well, some kind of flower- my memory ain't what it used to be). I would have liked to look at my handy dandy chart and know that sun flowers are needed to produce X, Y, and Z; also, that sun flowers require A, B, and C to grow.

There's some fancy word economists use for that sort of thing, but I can't drag it out of my tapioca-for-brains.

No...but I'll have a look around. I scribbled my own (incomplete) one on a sheet of paper as I went along. I do have some maps that list the resources next to each factory, but that's pretty spoiler-ish. Give me a yell if you want them, though.

As for the age thing...I find there's occassional disconcerting pauses every now and then when I'm talking while my brain tries valiantly to retrieve the right word. Makes me wonder what I'll be like when I'm 80 if I'm struggling now...

I set this one aside for a while due to HotU (and running a char thru SoU in preparation), but I should be getting back to it before terribly long. Quick question that was bugging me when I last played-

The main quest told me to build a factory and get a better ship. In round numbers, that's going to take at least 500,000 credits. I was really proud of my efforts to keep my Mercury on the move remotely while doing the main quests, but I've still only accumulated about 100,000 credits (I did dump a ton of money putting the Teladi "Best Buy" and "Best Sell" modules into my Disco). Is this main quest mission intended to be that huge and time consuming of a step?

Hmm...I had a brilliant reply (honestly!) but it's not here? Must have done T's preview-button trick.

Took a break to play DX:IW and kotor but I'll be back to X2 soon. I haven't played the story past mission 3 at all - busy doing my own thing. I have half a dozen factories so the story requirement doesn't seem too much to me.

My suggestion is to (temporarily) fly the Merc. Get a jump drive from Terracorp HQ - you'll cry over the price but the ability to jump anywhere is priceless (the jump drive runs on energy cells so the jump distance is only limited by the number of e-cells in cargo). With the best buy/sell, you should be able to trade e-cells or silicon and occasionally pick up a bulletin board job with bonuses up to ~70,000. You'll make 500,000 in three hours.

It's been long enough that I'll probably start over (it's a chemical imbalance I tell you- I can't help myself ). I think I might take advantage of the exploit in mission 2 where you can strip the loaner ship before returning it to Terracorp for about 400,000 credits.
