Fable (XBox): Continues To Break Records

We received this one from Microsoft Games earlier last night...
Fable Continues To Break Records As Best-Selling Game Across All Platforms In September

Best Launch Month Ever for Any Xbox Game Sold In the U.S.

Microsoft Game Studios today announced that Fable, the ground-breaking Xbox® roleplaying adventure game developed by Lionhead Studios, had an incredible launch month at retail stores in North America. Fable was the best-selling console title across all platforms in September, more than doubling the sales of the second best-selling title across the U.S. After its record-setting first week in which the game sold more than 375,000 units in North America, Fable has continued to demonstrate huge success with the best launch month ever for any Xbox game in U.S. According to The NPD Group, Fable sold more than 600,000 units in its first month at retail in the U.S. -- squashing all previous Xbox games' first-month sales records.

In Fable, the players’ every action determines their character's skills, appearances and moralities. Character's life stories are created from childhood through adulthood and on to old age. They can grow from an inexperienced child into the most powerful being in the world, spoken of by all and immortalized in legend. Players may choose the paths of righteousness or dedicate their characters' lives to evil; observing as they transform into reflections of their actions and decisions. Age leaves characters wizened, battle leaves them scarred, gluttony affects obesity. With experiences come advancement and physical change; whether it is by expanding muscles, a keen eye and nimble form or the buzz of magical energies around their finger tips. As players' characters develop, the world reacts to them and their actions. People comment on their successes, failures, appearances and behaviors. Their many opinions are expressed through applause, mockery, trepidation, panic and even flirtation. With each person characters aid and every creature they slay, the world is changed forever. In Fable, gamers decide: “Who will I be?” For more information about Fable, visit the official site at http://www.xbox.com/en-US/fable/default.htm. Fable is available in North America for an estimated retail price of $49.99 (U.S.).

This is not good news. It confirms the power of baseless, near-fraudulent hype.

Agreed with the poster above about all the ridiculous hype. From the reviews I've seen, it certainly doesn't seem like they lived up to all the promises they made about making "the greatest RPG ever," but have only made a passable and relatively short action-adventure-RPG hybrid. (though to be fair, I haven't actually played it myself). It's sad and frustrating that the Fable hype seems to be overshadowing other excellent and more comprehensive RPG's out there.

Its a console RPG and a very good one. As I have said in all other fable threads: Expect a console RPG and you will be happy. Expect something more you will be dissapointed.

This is not a PC game people!

Morrowind is every bit as complete on the xbox as it is on pc. I played both.

Why does Fable have to be so short. Morrowind can give many hundreds of hours without any addins.

Thats the answer everyone gives when I say that. So heres the answer I always give: (The short version anyway, I cant be bothered to explain how horribly bad Morrowind is yet again).

I would rather have Fable's short and incredibly rich gameplay experience to morrowinds 100+hours of mind numbing boredom. Morrowind is almost all filler, while Fable has the attention to detail that shows its a true labor of love.

No, I haven’t heard of the porting.

I have no consoles, either. However, recently, the console game market seems to be increasingly dominant and I like new innovations there if not lighter game plays.

BTW, I'm another who found the repetitive gameplay as one of the major problems with Morrowind…aside from the linear story… Hopefully ES 4: Oblivion would be free from the repetative issue since Batheda team seems to be conscious of it reading the recent review at Gamespy. If they are learning from both PC and console platforms and making not a mediocre mixture but a hybrid work, I think it would be worth a wait. For either lighter fun gameplay or in-depth repetitive gameplay is not a good option compared with in-depth fun gameplay. Maybe, better wait for Gothic III…then again, when the English version would be released?

@ Acleacius:

That comment was not refering to you and the PC Port. It was referring to people's unrealistic expectations of what type of game Fable should be.

A Fable port is not impossible, but dont hold your breath.
