that beta adventure is stupid... if you make it yourself it might be ok, but download the premade one, you get enough experiance to reach level 3 (its an easy quest. just goblins darnit!) and the store is selling insane items (magic bag 80% weight reduce, +1 items... etc.) for like.. 15 GOLD!!! 15!!!! grr.... the builders guide has a much better module to toy with if you follow the instructions...

Thanks, I picked up the PDF file right away. I may also get the book because I'm interested in all sorts of scripting and programming, but the Bioware tutorial should keep me busy for a while. Fun!

Also, you may say "heh" quite a bit, but I swear that these players said little else. The entire conversation went "heh. heh heh heh... heh heh." and so on. It wouldn't have been quite so entertaining/nervewracking if they hadn't misspelled "heh" as often.

Ach, looks like we're both pushing toward 30, Ekim. I drink very rarely, but I still remember when people stopped checking my ID for alcohol, the first wrinkles... (sigh).

Wow, the PDF is great....Filled with a bunch of great information...it has my creative juices flowing.

It's also slightly more helpful than Bethesda was with the Morrowind tool.

It's still nice to see games now-a-days not being hyper secretive about their coding. The Mods have given a lot of games a brand new lease on life.

Well, those "heh" boys really sound bad... I wouldn't have had the patience either I'm sure

As for edging towards 30, I feel what you're saying...Sometimes I'm longing for the days when I was frustrated because they asked me for my ID. How I wish they did now...

Well, I myself am being careful not to blame Bethesda on their construction Kit. The thing is that for NWN the Toolset is one of the core units of the whole package, its always been advertised that it would allow you to create modules like pnp D&D. And it does what was advertised.
For Morrowind, the toolset is more like an added feature, it's not really what was expected of the game, although many would argue that that was the feature they were eager for the most. That's just my opinion and vision though, I could be wrong
But it's true that Bethesda was not very helpful. The help file provided with the toolset wasjust aweful. It had what, 10 pages? (I'm being sarcastic, but there weren't a lot of pages!). And just doing something simple as trying to add a dialogue string to an NPC can be daunting! Much easier with NWN.

I too agree with much of Llama's post, except for his opinion of Morrowind. That game is what you make it. I think the problem today, is MONEY. There's far more competition today than there used to be, and games are MUCH more expensive to make. That's why we see so much manure from the big companies. They want to quick money makers. It's the small developers who are being creative. Look at Gothic, and soon Arx and Divinity. These games have promise and potential. However, how many people outside keen gamers have heard of them. None of these games are available, or even likely to be available here in Australia. I asked my local EB about Arx and Divinity and was told they don't import from small devellopers. This is what we face. What I hope will happen, is that many of these large companies will self destruct leaving only the small innovative ones in the market. Then we might get more great games.

Ekim: Don't mean to rag on Morrowind, honest, the tool set was fun, just very clumsy and you're right, it was sort of tacked on.

I was toying with the Aurora toolset last night...The ease of use is striking...I'm looking forward to more dealings with it

Tacked on? They MADE the bloody game with that tool. It has a steep learning curve (and worse, the documentation that shipped with it is unfortunately a laugh), but its actually a very powerful tool and extremely easy once you get the hang of it, especially compared to worldcraft or the like. I am curious about the aurora tools too, although the whole isometric view thing makes it much less exciting to me, I know thats stupid, but I cant help it. Does the NWN toolset ship with good helpfiles and manual?

It ships with a bunch of help files, some tutorials, wizards for use within the toolset, and the developers have released a few more tutorials online for it.

Documented, it is.

Ok, ok... I'm soooory

I haven't played around enough with it, and found it a bit frustrating to use apart from making items, so I just stopped. But when I looked around there weren't much documentation for it, so that's why I said it wasn't. So I'll make amends for it.

EDIT: Ok, well it seems I misread things (see post below). I'm NOT sorry then hehe! It looks like my first impressions on MW tools were right after all

I was talking about NWN toolset. Morrowinds was a nightmare for someone who just wanted to add a house or something.

No, it's not just you. I am sorely disappointed, in my humble opinion.. after this much time and that extra high price.. I would have liked to see more. No hidden rooms..the monsters don't scale if you try to play the single player module with multiple players, in fact, only one of the players will get any XP.. and there is no multiplayer 'world'.. *doh*.. oh, but don't worry.. there is an editor.. if you're familiar with C++, and you have no life. The game has good points.. but for $55, it's not complete enough.
I can't help but feel I was cheated.. and it's really too bad.

I'm married, and work all day, but still find enjoyment in creating things... permit me to take offense. You have a right to your opinion, and if you don't like the game and it doesn't appeal to you, that's fine.
