Game Recommendations for a Newbie

I want to try my luck at a RPG with the following features (or close to it)

1) Good 3D graphics
2) Prefer Fantasy type environment
3) Less Hack and Slash
4) No online charges
5) 1st Person
6) Multiplayer capabilities

Any ideas?

I can't think of anything that fulfills *all* of these (but someone else will). If you can compromise on No.5 and can find a good group to play with NWN would come close.

Good luck.

I agree with Dhruin. Although there is a hak pak available for NWN that enables you to play in a point of view somewhat similar to first person. NWN is the only game right now that would fulfill all or most of your requirements in the RPG genre.

I can recommend you Morrowind - good 3D graphics, 1st person view.

And Wizardry 8 - not so new, but very very good RPG with good enough graphics, 1st person view and combined fantasy setting.

Hi

Remove 1 or 2 of your requirements and I'm sure you'll get a load of suggestions.
Which point(s) is(are) less important to you?

I'd say the more restrictive items are really 4 and 6, but that's just me talking

Gothic...wait, no that would ruin other games for you. Plus, it doesn't have MP, not that it needs it. Better stay away from that one

Indeed, it's kind of like an old truth about network, it goes like this:
Good, Fast, Cheap: Pick any two (you can't have all three).

The only online rpg I played who was not all hack & slash was Ultima Online
on a private server (not public OSI server).

Maybe you can find NWN roleplaying server, I don't know...( I don't
play NWN)

But at the risk of being to pessimist, I personnally find the online gaming communinties
to be mostly hack'n'slasher.

So you kind of looking for the holy grail of CRPG which, IMHO,
does not exist. There's alot of fine game out there,
but I think you're asking for too much

Maybe you can try one of the many MUD/MUSH existing, I heard some of them
are filled with roleplayer, but then forget about your great 3d graphics
(even tough imagination is in 3d).

NWN can be an excellent role-playing experience but you really need a good group/DM. I don't think just joining a RP server will do the trick - you need to form the group yourself (or join a suitable existing group of course). The problem with RP servers on gamespy is it's hard (impossible?) to get a good RP dynamic going with strangers dropping in and out.

Ok...I've taken out some requirements

thanks everyone for the feedback...I guess I've quick being so picky and narrowed by preferences down to the following:

1) Good 3D graphics
2) Prefer Fantasy type environment
3) 1st Person

I really do like first person play....it seem more real (to me anyway). I'm kinda in the mood for fantasy but would handle some sci-fi I guess. Graphics are important.

Hope this helps.

I second that Provis, Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is the ticket.
