It lets you move things with your mind. The more levels of the skill the further the range. It lets you pick up things you may not usually be able to get to. The only time I remember using it in the game was in the sewers and there were a couple of things in the sewer canals where you couldn't walk. I picked the stuff up using telekenisis.
Someone else may have found another use for it though.

You can steal stuff with it. There is a skill that allows you to see through buildings. Combined with the telekinesis skill you can steal objects. As the shopkeeper does not see you, he will not notice anything.

There are a few minor quests that are solvable only with telekinesis or with throwing your pyramids and teleporting.
Other than these couple things it doesnt really pay off... |

I agree. It's just as easy to find a magic item that gives you that skill then it is to spend points in it. I got into the Thieves Guild by using magic items.

even with that skill maxed out I couldn't grab stuff out in the open with it. My char would cast the spell....and then run over and grab the item in question getting me in trouble with the local constables! I only managed to open containers with this spell and take all the stuff out of said container without being caught.
