Icewind Dale or Baldur's Gate 2?

I'm looking for playing an all-powerful wizard/sorcerer with jaw-dropping magic effects. I'm looking for something epic with enormous sized bosses. So what do you guys think?

Hmm... do you prefer a dungeon crawl or a story-driven game?

Story is always a plus, but I put the emphasis on cool magic effects with uber spells. By "Dungeon crawl" do u mean pure fighting and no story? If so, then no I don't prefer those types.

Icewind Dale is more hack and slash while Baldur's Gate 2 is more story driven.
They both use the same engine, so really, their magic spell effects are about the same in "cool" factor.
I'd suggest picking up BG2 and it's expansion. It was a lot better than IWD and it's expansion, in my opinion.

Definitely the best magic spell effects are in the IE game planescape torment.

The high level spells have their own little movies, such as meteor shower shows meteors out in space being grabbed and hurtling towards the planet. Sort of like final fantasy games.
