Toontown Online: To Hit Retail In The UK This Summer

You will no longer have to download 'Toontown Online' as soon as the game hits UK shelves this summer. Here's the press release:
TOONTOWN ONLINE BEGINS SALES OFFLINE VIA GREENSTREET

The Walt Disney Company’s award winning MMORPG is set to hit retail

The Walt Disney Company's award winning MMORPG*, Toontown Online, is set to hit the shelves across the UK this summer for the first time as a result of a distribution agreement with Greenstreet Software. Toontown Online has been available in the UK for purchase online since May 2004, and already tens of thousands of people have passed through its gates, experiencing its huge, magical universe of unique Disney characters. Players of Toontown create their own Toon character and interact with other players whilst uniting in their quest to defeat the evil robot Cogs.

The retail pack, with a suggested retail price of £6.99, entitles players to one month's membership which includes unlimited online game-play as well as five free bonus games on the CD. Players that buy Toontown at retail will also be able to enter a competition with the chance to win great Disney prizes including a Disney Television and portable CD Players.

The pack also enables players to extend their subscription to Toontown in full at the end of the one-month membership – enabling them to become further immersed in the exciting game play, and benefit from regular updates and enhancements. Once a player extends their subscription they will be eligible to receive a Welcome Pack and monthly newsletters, which include collectable badges and the opportunity to take part in exciting competitions and events.

Toontown has recently commenced a major advertising campaign, including TV advertising on channels such as Jetix and Nickelodeon, and will be continuing promotion on the Toon Disney Channel. Further marketing promotion is planned including print and online as well as via Capital Disney Radio as part of Walt Disney Internet Group's push to generate further awareness.

Toontown has already won a string of awards including Game industry News' 'Family Game of the Year' 2003; Computer Gaming World's 'MMPOG of the year' 2003; the 2003 Webby Award as the 'People's Voice' winner in the kids category; and the 'All Star Software Award' from Children's Software Revue magazine.

"We are very much looking forward to expanding the Toontown UK community by working with Greenstreet to launch Toontown in to some of the UK's leading retail stores. By placing Toontown in stores we are significantly increasing awareness and giving more potential players the chance to experience this fantastically fun and innovative massive multiplayer online game," commented Attila Gazdag, Walt Disney Internet Group Europe Managing Director.

"This is a unique title that encapsulates all the family values that consumers expect from Disney so we're confident it will be a success within retail. It's a great idea, executed brilliantly and combined with the marketing activity that we have planned is sure to be a winner with consumers and retailers alike," commented Jeff Fenton, CEO, at Greenstreet.

For an overview of Toontown go to http://www.disney.co.uk/toontown/

How do you win an award for a yet to be released product? Those Disney billions sure pay for some creative marketing schemes.
