Vista Schmoozing Up to The Gamers

I dont have much to say about this, that last column of mine burned me out, I need to go to bed already @ 3 am. People are all talking about Vista lately and how it related to new gaming approach for the Windows OS.

I hope most game developers are cautious about jumping on the "Vista" bandwagon.

People are holding on to their computers a lot longer now than in the past and the chances that the masses will want to switch their OS's just to take advantage of DX10 are small. Any Developer who doesn't program for XP users for a good long time yet is going to be losing sales.

Well said. I think the only caveat would be if some blockbuster game comes out that offers special features that only work with the new hardware. Remember the mad rush to buy GF3's so we could see Morrowind's "pretty water"?

Sorry. No pearls of wisdom in this oyster.

Yes, most people now have around 10k in diff pcs, laptops, peripherals, games, etc, theres no way we can just suddenly upgrade to a diff OS, as weve begun upgrading diff components instead of whole units. I aint sweatin it, as there is such a considerable backlog of pc game titles and software for XP, you could never upgrade and still have more available then you could possibly ever use. And who doesnt have a few titles sitting around still in the wrapper, or titles with considerable replay youve only played once?? Besides the price of current systems and their components going thru the floor as well, I think one could stay XP for a very long time after the Vista Rapture and be fine. I find myself saying sometimes "how much faster than the blink of an eye do you need to be?"

The fear of Vista is a real one, but I cant help but remember the same fear of XP. I remember myself being hesitant and wary, and now I'd never consider ever going back to '98.
