WoW: Collector's Edition - EB Games Redefines Greed

While some of you cool-headed types might point out that it's always just about supply and demand in a free market economy, this one still seems to border on rip-off . EB Games is now charging US$ 149.99(!) for the 'World of Warcraft' Collector's Edition.
Make no mistake. This is the same Collector's Edition that used to be selling at US$ 74.99 - US$ 89.99 a few weeks ago.
The supply and demand argument is a strong one though. I just looked around and wasn't able to find too many places selling the Collector's Edition at all (those places that still advertised for it had bold disclaimers about limited stock).
Looks like this one may be one of the first truly limited Collector's Editions in the history of gaming.
Thanks, Evil Avatar!

Hard to tell but I'd say neither of them . You're heading in the right direction probably though.
While EBGames is quite obviously "exploiting" its market position as the holder of the very few CEs that are left, it seems like VIVENDI is the one to blame as they haven't taken care of producing enough CEs of WoW. It's usually the publisher's burden to supply the material that is included with a retail box and it looks like Vivendi dropped the ball on this one.
Let's hope that -despite the company's financial woes (they laid off another 89 staff today ... despite WoW's huge sales success)- they'll be able to produce more CEs since it seems like there's still quite a bit of demand out there.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, but how collectable is a Collecter's Edition that anyone can buy? There's a comment on the official forums that they don't plan to make any more CE versions at this time.

True but "Collector's Edition" or even "Limited Edition" has become synonomous with "Special Edition" over the years since they have never been truly limited. So I guess that gamers have gotten used to chalking any "limited" talk off as marketing tricks . Might have been a good idea of Vivendi/Blizzard to point out that they were 100% serious when they were talking about limited stock.
