The Gothic avatars are awesome because Gothic is awesome! They make BTB's avatar look like someone vomited on a pizza!

Maybe people like the Gothic avatars (at least of the hero} because they somehow identify with him. I personally chose mine because that's the forum I most post in. Just seems appropriate.

I'm pretty sure it's Drizzt too. I don't recall seeing that person in either thief games...

Before my custom made avatar, I also had a Gothic avatar. I joined the forum because of Gothic. (actually it was a discussion at the Gothic forum that people in Belgium only spoke French -> I just had to correct them. Dutch speaking myself and doesn't know really much of the French language)

Looks like some topics return every now and then...

I also started off with a Gothic (2) avatar, this one:

After that I've had a Fallout 2 avatar, and then this avatar, which is also from FO2.

Back when I joined, people had pre-set avatars which changed according to their post count.

My first individual avatar was one of Trias the Betrayer (from PS:T), my next one was a kitbashed Gothic avatar (I decided to have Jackal and Seraphia breed to create my av - I had that one for a very long time), my third one was a Star Wars avatar, and my subsequent avatar/s was/were Rudolf the yellow-eyed machine gunner.
