Previously NWN run smoothly, then slow, now smooth again

After several months i finished the official campaign in NWN, i never touch NWN again until couple days ago. But the game somehow ran so slow that it take about 3 minutes or more just to load a new section of the game, and extremely sluggish if i try to move any items inside my inventory. It did made me searching high and low for answer and turned out that the culprit is my newest video driver, Nvidia 40.72. I reinstalled my old driver 29.42 which i still kept, and now the game is running smoothly again.

So what's wrong with the 40.72 driver? maybe it's the game itself which now already been patched dozen times?, Or rather it's my system hardwares incompatible with the newest drivers?

My system: MSI GF2 Pro 64MB, DirectX 9, Athlon 1 GHZ, 256 MB RAM, SB Live!, & Epox 8KTA3 Pro mainboard (VIA KT133A chipset).
