| Path 1.4: Critical errors |

Last time I played X2, I think it was still at v1.3, which worked fine for me.
Today I installed the game again and tried the new v1.4 patch, and the game will not work at all. I can get to the menu screen, but as soon as I start any type of game, be it a new game/loaded game, or just one of the training simulations, the game crashes to my desktop with an illegal operation.
Does anyone know of any issues with the 1.4 patch and how to fix them?
Tried so far:

Re-installed game multiple times
Updated all drivers
Closed all TSR's
System Specs:

P4 2.4Ghz
Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
2x80GB Western Digital SATA drives (Raid Striped)
1x80GB Western Digital IDE
DVD-RW

Never mind, I got it working.
Apparently updating a clean install straight to v1.4 is not allowed. The site says you need to update from 1.2 or 1.3. I updated from a clean install to 1.3 then 1.4 which didnt work, but updating a clean install to 1.2 then 1.4 worked.
3rd times a charm.
