Starting Characters - Any Significance?

When you choose a starting character the only difference I see is 5 extra points in one stat or the other (oh, and there are slight differences in starting skills). Are there any hidden differences (what skills get presented when or different actual skill numbers, etc.) or does it really not matter at all for game play which character one starts with?

Yes it does. Check out the stuff I made about it here. Also look at the statistics page where it shows how an increase of the primary stats have different influences on the secondary stats depending on the character you've chosen.
