Perhaps... but he's already read the D&D source material on it. I'm saying nothing at all about the Avatar trilogy or Prism Pentad besides how cool they are.

Yes I kinda knew that Cyric did a little rampage on zhentil Keep. No reason to feel bad about revealing that. I'm looking forward to reading the books anyway.

I really appreciate all your input EverythingXen. No worry Maggot you're input is also very much appreciated. Let's talk about the books when I have read them.

Believe it or not….I have already received "The Verdant Passage".

Sorry for insulting cross-Atlantic postal services earlier.

The Prism Pentad

Hi again

I have received all but the second book of The Prism Pentad so I’m stuck after the Verdant Passage at the moment.

Here what I thought of it.

I really liked the main characters. Especially Agis and Rikus were interesting. Their rivalry for Sadira’s heart was enjoyable. I didn’t care much for Anezka though. I had a little hard believing in a Halfling female gladiator and thought she were a little annoying.

One thing I particularly liked was that they weren’t like a lot of the other D&D heroes. Drizzt Do’Urden and Artemis Entreri (Elminster too, I understand) are always so flawless in battle and hardly get a scratch even when fighting against impossible odds. Rikus had a lot more trouble when fighting against the Gaj.

The universe is very fascinating. It seems inspired by ancient Rome and Egypt and I really like the idea of Sorcerers having exploited the world resources with their greed for more power.

The traditional D&D races are also twisted a bit which was fun. I particularly liked the Elves. A nice tweak to the normal good and peace loving folk was that they in the Dark Sun world are common thieves and slave traders. The only thing I found a little odd was that almost everyone is half-something.

The story might not be the best I’ve read. I would have liked more descriptions and details of the world but there is time for that in the other books I presume. All in all I think the book is solid and fights and the use of magic/psi are well written.

Well, now I just hope that I’ll get The Crimson Legion soon.

Book One was great for a nice intro to the world. The stories and character interactions and battle sequences really, really pick up in the rest of the series.

It's a harsh world... everything is grittier. Battles are less clear cut won... more often survived.

Rikus and Sadira are half-dwarf and half-elf... everyone else is pure blooded (halflings really aren't half anything). Beyond that there are half-giants as muscle/enforcer.

It's one of the quirks of Dark Sun... the non-human races are more abundant. The strongest survive, and the half-breeds have some remarkable endurance traits going for them.

From here on, until book five anyways, each of the books are devoted mainly to one or two of the 'heroes'. The others are always making appearances, of course, but Denning hammers character development into your skull.

Taken individually each book may not be the greatest story ever written... but taken collectively... it's a great series. Especially for pulp fantasy.

Hope Book 2 hurries for you... it's pretty intense.

Still haven’t seen Crimson Legion yet. I guess it’ll never show up so I have to order it from someone else. I’m in no rush though since I’m still reading through the Avatar books. I have finished the Trilogy and begun on Prince of Lies so I’ll soon be ready for our discussion.

The Avatar trilogy and Prince of Lies are great. I like Crucible: The Trial of Cyric the Mad as well, but I've never been able to find it to buy anywhere... I used to own it but it disappeared.

I'm currently running a PnP D&D game based around the aftermath of the Avatar triolgy and Prince of Lies and Crucible. Great books all but I still love the Icewind Books - I really like Drizzt but I think the best book was Servant of the Shard which featured Jaraxle and Enteri.

As for the Zentil Keep according to the 3rd Edition Campaign book large parts of it still remain destroyed.

Here's a question that I hope someone can answer. I have read Finder's Bane but I'm trying to find the story of the ressurection of Bane from his half demon offspring Iyachtu Xvim but I can't identify which book it's in. I don't want to hijack this tread but if anyone knows I'd be most greatful.

I agree in that Servant of the Shard is great. The two previous book in the Paths to Darkness series were not very interesting. A lot of boring stuff about a local girl and a lord.

Well, I would make sense if Zhentil Keep is still in ruins. It was only 4 years ago (Forgotten Realms time, that is) Cyric thrashed it.

I don't know if there is a book about Bane's ressurection. It is a recent event but let me know if you find one.
