Exactly my thought too! Even though I haven't played a game from Ultima series for probably years now, and even though Gothic sweeps the floow with a game like Ultima IX, I felt I just had to vote them.. I owe too much not to.

if you play as a mage then as a fighter it's enough. you could play for each camp but it's boring. the third time i played was with cheats

I voted Baldur's gate series. It included all the elements I look for in a RPG.
Solid story line.. Interesting quests, NPC's that were more than just extra inventory holders, and tactical party based combat. Best part is I still have to play the throne of bhaal expansion. Another excuse to play the entire series again!!

Ok, I voted for the "Ultima Series"...

Truth be told, Akalbeth, Ultima I, and Ultima II, were all ground breaking...
But they weren't perfect...

The first real RPG on a computer in my humble opinion was Ultima III.

It simplified Pencil&Paper down to elements and then expanded on
the FUN elements...

Of course no one born after 1984 would understand...
Unless they had a macabre sense of history and were willing to play
an old monotone greenscreen game.

But truth be told Ultima IV was the first game to move away from
Pencil&Paper, and Ultima V just did it better...

Ultima VI was bent on breaking ground graphically and spawnned
two favorable RPGs in their own right "Martian Dreams" and "Savage Empire".

However there is NO ONE that can tell me that there was a better RPG than
Ultima VII, ( ok they can tell me all they want, I am NOT gonna listen ).
For its day and time Ultima VII was breaking rules, making noise,
and starring on Broadway.

Yeah Yeah, it ain't 1987 anymore... And Yeah Yeah, gothic is the best RPG
ever made... well until Gothic II... OK I submit...

But I voted for the "Ultima Series" and I stand by it... As long as no one
( and I mean absolutely no one ) brings up Ultima IX... It wasn't my fault.

Er....

No World of Warcraft?

I had to go with Planescape Torment because World of Warcraft wasn't on the list. But for single player, PST was my favorite. I enjoyed Gothic 1 but haven't yet played Gothic 2.

My vote has to go with UW or Daggerfall, but I can't seem to make up my mind. Where the Gold Box games on the list? Pools of Rad. (the orginal game) was a solid game with good tactical combat, and lots to do.

If you are thinking about playing Daggerfall I would advise you to save early, often, and plenty. Use two saves for general whopping around, and one save just before you get a quest (the quest log is buggy, if you get a quest and finish it, it still maynot clear off the log which can cause problems and is a sign of slowly corrupting save file). Also have a save game that is older by a day or two, just in case you loose other other three save files. The first few months of this game's release there was no fix save program, so all this saving was a must. Be aware that the fix save can't fix all problems.

The dungeons are large and randomly generated; a few that are apart of the main story line are not though. The world was very large, and you could make different characters and live in differnet geographical regions. My first character lived in the desert, the second in the mountians, and the third in a rain forest.

Daggerfall and UW are games that I still play every so often, along with the gold box games. All are worth taking some time to enjoy.
