I just recieved this game and had only been able to play a few minutes unfortunately, but my question is:
1. is it possible to be a pure archer or rely little on melee weapons
2. if you can be an archer is it comparable in ability to the other classes.
3. there is no three

Thanks in advance,
Deacon

yo, you can put all of your experience into dexterity, bow, and crossbow training, but towards the end of the game it is good to be in either the 6th circle of magic or have double handed sword training. so put all your stats into dex and strength, then start learning skills once you have enough to keep you alive for a while. you can always use rings and necklaces to boost str and dex but you cant boost skills with them. oh yeah, pickpocket, picklock, and sneaking are completely useless, dont even think of wasting skill points on them.

It is viable, but not easy. Max out your bow skill, then dexterity. Later in the game, train in xbow.

I do not agree. They are not necesary, but if you learn them you will be able to do many things, that will make world of Gothic more similar to real world.
So do not learn them if you want to find fastest way trought game. But learn them if...

You don't NEED the thieving skills because often you can get the loot by going out of character and saving/reloading 100 times until you pick all the locks. But if you want to rack up the great items and lots of ore while remaining true to the game world, those skills are quite viable and useful.

You can quickly take out very strong enemies as an archer, even faster than a Warrior would.

Your drawback would be that you waste a load of arrows in the beginning, so you are forced to switch to chapter 2 quickly...

Sometimes you must also rely on spells, and at least one monster must be taken out with a melee weapon that costs 22 strength.

The end part must be solved by using a sword or learning circle six. To master sword costs a total of 100 skillpoints (excluding strength), to become circle 6 mage costs 140 skillpoints (excluding mana).

You will probably have enough skillpoints to reach either at the end of the game, since masterizing both bow & crossbow can be done with just 140 skillpoints (INCLUDING DEXTERITY)

In the final map, there are ways to enhance your strength and Mana, so you are still safe if you havnt put points in that earlier.

P.S.

Remember that there are jewelry that can raise you +35 in strength/mana/dexterity temporary if you combine them...

Good to know for one-time uses.
