Pixel Shading option, help?

When I run the Morrowind Launcher.exe it shows the graphics card option, resolution, and pixel shading on/off option. I have a Geforce 4, and an AMD 1.2g. The Pixel Shading is selected to 'Off' and is 'greyed out', meaning I cant change this option. I would like to have pixel shading on, and with a Geforce4 being one of the highest cards out, I should be able to do this, correct? If someone could tell me how id be very thankful

Re-install your vid card drivers

If that doesn't work, re-install Morrowind

If neither of those work, it is probably a case of Morrowind just not being able to detect your card correctly. There is a chance that the next patch will fix this.

You can also try installing different vid card drivers and hope that the bug in Morrowind is only isolated to the driver version your using and not a bigger system problem.

Tange, is your GF4 a Ti or MX? Because if you have any MX model you do not have pixel shading in your GF4. (Ti4200-4600 are FULL Geforce4 chipsets, all MX models miss features like pixel shading and such).

Even GF3 is better than GF4MX and it has pixel shading too.

True. I purchased the gf4 440 mx and then I learned that pixel shading was not supported. When Morrowind wouldn't allow me to select the Pixel Shading option, I did a little research and found the answer. I guess for $70, I got what I paid for.

MX card

I dont know where you bought your card but is exchanging it for a TI an option? I upgraded to a TI 4200 yesterday and the graphic differences are amazing.

Doh, I forgot the most obvious answer...

Word to the wise, never buy an MX. The lowest of the high-end card is always within an affordable range above the best MX.

Nvida has done a horrible thing in my opinion by putting out the GeForce 4 MX. People are natually going to think that with the '4' it's better than a GeForce 3, which it's not by any stretch. They are tricking people into buying a card that won't be able to take advantage of all the cool features in games to come. John Carmack has already told people not to buy GF 4 MX's if they want to play Doom III.
I wonder if this MX issue is behind some of these "I have a GeForce 4 and Morrowind still runs terribly" posts.

-what does MX stand for anyway? 'Missing Xtras'?

I did not read every post completely, just scanned them for key words.

Greyed out pixel shading is prolly due to privilidges you have as a user in win2k (or maybe even xp). Log in as an admin, start the game and set it to On. That should change it for all users.
