assertion failure upon entering old mine

I am running an Athlon 1200, Win2k, Aureal Superquad, GeForce 3, all the latest drivers, DirectX 8.1 with Gothic 1.08k.

When I try to enter the old mine, the game crashes with an assertion failure after loading for a bit.

Has anyone else seen this problem? I've tried disabling sound, music, etc. but nothing seems to work. I've also uninstalled/reinstalled. The strange thing is that I used to be able to enter the old mine, but it now fails, but it now fails on all my saved games.

I've had NOTHING but trouble with the Old Mine. I'm running an AMD Anthlon 1600 XP, Windows XP, ASUS V7700TI, MSI K7T266 Pro 2 mainboard, 512mg of DDR RAM, a Creative SoundBlaster 5.1 Audigy. I have all the latest driver updates, turn off my virus scanning software while installing and while playing... game crashes every 2 seconds while in the Old Mines... it crashes about every 3 to 4 minutes elsewhere. After aproximately 4 to 5 crashes, I go to bluescreen and Windows XP does a memory dump. I've about had it with this game; I'm SO tired of uninstalling/installing... If I hear Diego's introduction speach one more time...
