I mean right before battle begins. There are other spells, that are used only during combat but must be cast before combat and can not be casted during combat (you can not use them during combat) - f. e. elemental shield, armorplate...

I am starting to think that this spell is one of them, but I am not sure.

Superman is castable only during battle.
If you can't cast it then but you have it in your spellbook, (without having used an editor to put it there)then you probably have a corrupt game file or some other problem with the game.
Try to reinstall and re-patch the game. Backup your save files first.

Other things to try would be increase the skills needed for the spell, see if another character can cast it, buy a spellbook and see if you can relearn it....

If none of that fixes it and you haven't edited/hacked your game then email Sirtech a support email with your savegame file attached. They will fix it and send the good savefile back to you.
Beware though, Sirtech has ways of knowing if you edited the save and will not fix it if you did. They may even tar and feather you .

And rightfully so!! I've had to contact Linda Currie about a bug I experienced in my game. She was more than helpful, walked me through the bug...what caused it, how to avoid it, etc...

However, I can see why they would refuse to help some hacking goof...If I ever were to write a game..ANY game, I wouldn't want people to just hack into the code and customize it to their liking...if you want a customized game, write it yourself!!
