Do Chests ever RESPAWN items later?

I just finished Chapter one. I checked a few houses that I had previously robbed the chests from Chapter One and realized the chests were still empty. So I assume that any chest that I have already looted in houses will stay empty for the rest of the game instead of respawning like monsters and merchant items, correct??

I just want to confirm this is the case so I dont waste a bunch of time going back to all of them.

Thanks.

If someone figured out the lock combination to your chest, and stole all your stuff, would you want to put more stuff in it to be stolen again? I sure wouldn't...

And what about plants or some other stuff lying around? Will all the area be completely empty?

It would make sense for new plants/herbs to grow halfway through the game when a number of weeks had passed... Then again, maybe the plants/herbs grow seasonally. If that is the case, then they only gow once per year, and new plants won't grow until next year (Gothic 3?)

They should... Now that I think of it, some merchants at the beginning of a new chapters have a fresh supply of herbs/plants/mushrooms. We can safely assume whatever plants/herbs/mushrooms that grow overtime are being picked by the merchants before we have time to stumble upon them...

If I remember correctly, the mushrooms are most commonly found in sheltered areas such as caves and under thick wooded areas. That would imply that they don't grow as the result of rainfall.
