I am playing as a dwarven paladin in Chapter 2. I used the halfling rogue Tomi Undergallows all throughout Chapter 1 because of his usefulness picking locks and detecting and disarming traps. However, I am getting to a part in the game where Tomi just isn't quite as good as he was before. He gets killed much more often and doesn't do a great deal of damage. I would hire a new henchman, but I am not very good at picking locks and disarming traps (I can't always detect them either). I can bash certain chests and doors, but some can only be lockpicked, not bashed. I need some advice as to what to do. Any help would be appreciated! _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

I played a cleric and kept Tomi thru the entire story. I only dumped him long enough to hand out henchie quest items to the others that I had found during the game, and would hire him back once that was done.
His armor and weapons get better as the game goes on. If you ever dropped him, you might want to make sure he's up to his highest possible level. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

Cool. Thanks for the pointer, and how do I check what level he is? Or is it possible? _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

I don't remember where exactly (somehwere in the tactics branch, IIRC), but if you talk to him, there's a conversation choice to make him level.
For that matter, you can just examine him (right click on him and choose examine) and I'm pretty sure it will list his level. He's supposed to be one level less than your character. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

I was a Paladin\monk\wizard, so I could easily open locks with spells and kept Daelan all the game (except some parts with Linu), but the sorcerer is good too, he'll open locks easily, and if you're tough and can hold the enemy, he'll do good damage too. |

I tried the gnome sorcerer once, and he got killed off too fast for me to marvel at his uselessness. That was in Chapter 1, however. He probably is a lot better in the later game. He gets on my nerves though. I was thinking about hiring the Bard Sharwyn, as she seems pretty powerful. I do have some theive's tools +6, so maybe I can open locks. I'll try anyway, and tell you the result. _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

I tend to power attack locked doors and chests, when I don't fireball them to shrapnel. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Yeah, but some locked doors that can be picked can't be bashed, and vice-versa, but I can bash doors and chests. _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

No, that's wrong. There's no doors that can be "picked but not bashed" and "bashed but not picked"! If a message appears saying that your weapon can't do damage, means thatb you're not powerful enough. And when your char says that It's impossible to pick this, it means that with your current skill level, you can't pick it! |

Ok, Nobody, but my point is that if I'm not powerful enough to bash a door that Tomi could picklock, I might miss something. _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

I'm a Paladin; I use Divine Magic. And I don't think there's a Divine Spell that opens locks. _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

I'm not a pro with Divine magic, as, although I was partly a Paladin, I don't use it, but ANY spell that can hurt normal people(not turn undead, holy light, etc) can hurt a chest or a door. |
