Cost of skills doubled after becoming a mage : BEWARE |
|
UPDATED :
Before it cost me, in LEARNING POINTS :
1 for 1 strength
1 for 1 dexterity/agility
1 for 1 magic/mana
basically 1:1 ratio for anything
100 gold+prayer = 4 hit points
NOW it's :
2 for 1 strength
2 for 1 dexterity/agility
1 for 1 magic/mana
basically 2:1 for all except mana!
100 gold+prayer = 4 mana points

I think it's an okay feature... since if it wasen't there you could just become a badass mofo very early in the game, and that wouldn't be fun... _________________ We'll get along fine as soon as you realize I'm God.

I had a stash of learning points before I came to the mages.
I could've been a "badass mofo" regardless, by pumping all my non-mage skills till lvl12 then joining anyway.
This is just plain stupid.
Had I read a FAQ or heard someone mention it, I would've been just fine. That's called bad game developers.
Nowhere in the game did it mention the cons of joining.
Also, there's so much dueling in the game, and hand to hand, I'm lucky I burned a good 20-30 points on fighting before joining, or else I'd be entirely gimped.
The mage guild will pay dearly. |

The increase in skill points you must use to get more strength has nothing to do with your level, but is decided by your choice of guild. A mercenary or a paladin only pays 1 skill point per 1 strength, but 2 skill points per 1 mana.
If you pray , at the different shrines, it's not fixed what You get if you donate 100 gold or less. Sometimes you get nothing, other times you can even get +2 Strength points, Hitpoints, but maybe it's also is depending on the guild you have chosen.
I guess your guild choice is final for the game, no matter how bad You treat your fellow mages. _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.

They are definately not making it out alive for this.
There's a guy in the basement that's seemingly invincible. He better not be flagged invincible by the developers, don't want to have to cheat.
They should have at least given mages dexterity. Having a fireball that costs too much mana and mana that doesn't regenerate on it's own is no substitute for cold steel and a good arrow in the eye when I'm killing tiny beasts who aren't worth wasting magic on. |

Yep the mana problem is significant because it don't restore during time except by sleep. But You can find an item which restores your hitpoints while walking, I wonder if their is an item which do the same for mana (ring). But a bit of searching of road is probably required.
I used my sword for the low level monsters, and saved my mana for the really tough ones _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.

The good piranhas made a big deal out of balancing the game, so believe me, everything is there for a reason.
I just joined the monestary too. Looking forward to bash some beasts with firebolts _________________ Thou shallt not kill |

I`m almost at the end of my journey as Noble Paladin of Innos. Never found a ring that regenerates mana, but maybe a mage can get one in a special quest or something. Try talking to NPC in every chapter. In contradiction to part 1 here side quests appear in every chapter (maybe exept 5 where new side quest for me had only Sekob or his wife - whom you find first).
Back to the topic - there is possibility of great advancement in game before joining guild - so train strenght and agility if you want to become mage or mana if guard or merc. Then you can quickly catch up with the others.
Praying at shrines - sorry if I missed but always thought that it works right only once a day of game`s time.??? |

yes it only works once a day, but also the benefits are random, sometimes you get nothing. _________________ =High Shadow of the RPGDot Shadows=

Talk to the guy sitting on the right site of pyrokar (the leader in the monestary), he can give you an assignment to restore the shrines, and pyrokar can give you a potion(s) against this stifled curse. _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.

That learning points thing was probably added to make the creation of mixed characters more complicated. In Gothic you could learn all 6 circles, get a lot of Str and wield a Custodianīs Blade. Maybe the devs wanted to prevent something like this. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Maybe. But You don`t have to get to ohmydeargod level to end game. One fighting skill should be enough. The trick in the game is that you can`t (its not absolute true, in chapter6 one can respawn enemies endlesly switching switches in the wrong order - but IMHO its only for complete wackos: they give best 800 Exp each respawn when you will probably need around 20.000 to advance) learn everything. On the other hand part 2 was so interesting for me that I wanted to explore max (to be honest in part 1 too)and just few minutes ago I`ve finished the game - level 44 over 495.000 Exp. Am I good or what |
