These things can mildly spoil your fun, so view at your own risk, folks.

As always with these things take the information with a grain of salt. Just comparing the two sites with weapon and ship info you'll find they have different statistics for the same ships in more than a few places.

Basically, use them to get a rough estimate of a ship's capabilities and confirm in game before buying to avoid slapping yourself in the head.

What I wish for? A ship capable of docking an M6. I don't see why there's no docking port on the TL or M1 for a M6.

I find the maps the most useful; I always like to know where I'm going.

The map is one thing I will NOT touch. It's half the fun for me, exploring new systems. Makes blitzing through a Xenon sector desperately dodging PPC blasts wondering what's on the other side fun.

Anybody got an alphabitized list of the control commands already done I could have a copy of? This seek and find is a pain. If not I will print myself up one.

After at least a hundred of hours of play I still do not know all the keyboard shortcuts.

If you don't know them, then at least I don't feel so stupid then.

The manual only tells you about half the keys anyway, so don't sweat it too much. I was futilely looking for guidance with ship-to-ship docking just last night.

Important keys for simple living:

t-- uses your viewscreen to pick out a target
.-- brings up the sector map, where you can target things you can't see
r-- brings up a list of everything you own
shift-D-- autodocking is your friend
u-- turns off the autopilot if you change your mind
s-- brings up the info/control screen for the active ship

The S, then C combo is very useful. It allows you to navigate, fight and trade if you have the appropriate software. I use it a great deal in conjunction with T for target.

As an addendum, the wonderful U does much more than turn autopilot off... it does EVERYTHING.

If you push it while targeting a station, it will dock. If you're targeting a ship, asteroid, container it will follow. If you target a jumpgate it will activate FlySector. Tapping it again cancels any of these effects. The only key I use more is the R key... though I use SX and Enter a lot when I'm in a M6.

Or SLEnterFX to exchange cargo with my Teladi harrier fuel runner and mission getter/game saver. Though usually I set its home base to my M6 and tell it to Buy Wares and select a factory. Automatically sends it off, buys products, returns, docks, and transfers as many as will fit into the mothership's hold.

I thought of the home base, but not the Buy Wares. You're a good reference to have around, Xen.

Another use for homebase... automatic trader maintenance. Just take an empty credit base (something like a full sillicon mine that does no trade, etc) and drop 50,000 or more into it to get them started... hit sector trade after assigning a home base and... voila! Draws and deposits money to that base instead of out of your account (though the 4000 they charge each time they make 50,000 still comes from your 'personal' account).

This reduces such unfortunate things as buying 1 million worth of Beta PAC that it cannot sell as well as helps you see how much they're making.

(My 5 made 2 million in an hour or two. Not bad at all.)

Keep in mind once you personally enter a ship with a homebase setting the homebase setting gets cleared.

edit: whoops... I sense a disturbance the force and will move to the new topic I feel has just been created on deploying sattelites.

I'm trying hard to keep the "useful files" thread pristine, 100% basic info. No harm done.

<dte - please feel free to delete this post to keep the thread clean>

Okay, I am still looking for a definitive list of all trade goods and their price ranges. As I wrote before, I do not see this as cheating! I have not gotten the best buy/sell software yet, but the knowledge of price ranges should be common in a computerized society.

Second, a list of factory inputs/outputs (okay the outputs are pretty obvious), would be nice. As well as rates of production and consumption. I mean if an engercy cell factory only produces 120 or so cells per crystal then I am not crazy about setting one up (since crystals sell for about 1700 and 120*15 = 1800 would be my estimated profit).

Unless, of course, those 120 energy cells are produced in a minute or two.

Thanks!
