I used figher/theif through BG1 and 2, I like being able to backstab with a katana or longsword. I haven't yet gotten ToB but I probably will soon. I've seen FAQs talking about high level abilities. If I use my best BG2 character, because of the multi-class, I'd barely get any high level abilities. Should I start BG2 again so I can dual class a character to get high levels, if so what level do I dual at, can a high level theif get more than 5x backstab? If I do dual-class I'll loose that 19 str. I get from being a half-orc. Going back to BG1 to create a chara. from level 1 would be to time consuming.

DOn't worry about your multiclass character getting high level abilities. You still do.

Throne of Bhaal gives you a special ability every level starting at 3,000,000 experience. Whether that 3 million is in one class, or 1.5 million in two, or 1 million in three. You'll still get access to all your special abilities (though some, like the 10th level spells mages get, won't work for you until you hit a certain level).

Trust me... I played my fighter/thief and whirlwind attacked or assassinated with the rest of them. You advance slower, but you don't suffer loss of special abilities.
