Expansion pack question

I have just installed the expansion, and am wondering if the expansion is totally stand-alone, or whether I can start a whole new game of NWN. I know you can play SoU by itself, my question is does the expansion work like TOSC and BG, where you can play the entire game plus expansion all in one game with the same character.

The expansion is designed to be played with a new level 1 character.

So, in fact, it isn't really an expansion, per se. Really, a new game.

I'd say "add-on" would be more appropriate than "expansion", yes.

It's an expansion as in the new feats, prestige classes, etc become part of the engine and thus can be taken in all modules (as far as I know... have to test that when i get home). And so the original game is expanded.

But add on is a much better description of it. Though there is indeed nothing stopping you from playing SoU with the same character you used in the first game. I'm tempted to put my archmage in just to get the expansion over with faster to write teh review... but then, that would be missing out on the things that make SoU different,
