Impressions and a Question

Well, I've just spent about 3 hours with the game, and I'm having a blast. Not having played the beta, the freedom is quite daunting, and I've spent a lot of time just wandering around, seeing what there is to see.

Graphics are great, though more system intensive than I was lead to suspect. I've also been told that the first village is one of the most graphically intensive locales, so we'll have to see as I play more. I'm playing as a Wood Elf Enchantress, so my early combat consisted of picking off mudcrabs at a safe distance.

I've also spent a considerable amount of time collecting ingredients for alchemy, and therein lies my question. Does anyone have any experience with this skill? I've tried making some potions with a mortar and pestle, but they always seem to fail. Also, my skill does not seem to increase with this failure. Am I missing something? Thanks,

Your Question

I understand that in general in this game, you have to use skills successfully in order to improve at them. Just as you don't get better with a sword when you miss, you don't get better at alchemy when you fail with a potion. So you probably have to successfully make some very simple potions in order to get a foothold.

you need 4 apparati to make potions, not just mortar and pestle. and I don't know how high your skill is - it's hard starting out.

There are books about alchemy in the game. They teach you some potions.

I'm no expert but...

I don't have the game so I can't be certain but the guide book mentioned that you would experience the effect of an ingredient when eaten if you pass your alchemy skill check.

Basicly, it sounds to me like you could eat ingredients and raise your alchemy skill that way.

A crazy touch, I love it! ** SLIGHT SPOILER **

** SLIGHT SPOILER FOLLOWS **

So, I've been wandering around outside of the initial town, increasing my skills and I head on back to replenish my supply of arrows. Well, imagine my surprise when I walk back into the shop and the shopkeep is now dressed in a robe I sold him the last time I was in there! I guess he really liked it!

*** END SPOILER

Another question, though. I see how eating ingredients helps me increase my alchemy skill without making potions, but is there any way to increase your enchantment skill (w/o finding books, etc) besides making enchantments? I keep failing and wasting precious soul gems.

Thanks,
