A tip for you spellcasters out there

This is a kinda obvious tip but many people might miss it. When you cast spells for the different schools of magic they increase in level. So for instance, if you cast a ranged damage spell (such as your low level fireball spell) it will improve your skills, even if you DONT hit a creature with it. So if you wish to increase you skills when you first start the game just walk a bit from town, start casting fireball (or whatever spell you want to increase a particular school) into the air and in time you will increase in level. When your mana is depleated, just camp out in the wilderness and repeat.... I gained around 5-6 levels right when I started out casting damage and conjuration spells and increased my willpower and intelligence tremendously. Well I hope you all enjoy this tip and reply with questions and/or comments....

Good Idea..

Yup.. hehe another tip is to run around jumping all the time.. you'll have your arobatics up in no time.

Also.. if you're a spell caster.. get custom spells.. the only problem is afaik you need to have bought spells to get the base 'effects'

The custom spells is an awesome option to getting the spells exactly how you need it. Just buy relatively cheap spells that have the effects you want. For instance my main combat spells is a ranged fire damage spells with paralyse and poison effects. It prevents the enemy from attacking plus does damage over time. Any combination you can imagine is possible making it one of the most powerful tool I have ever seen in a RPG

by eating stuff you will improve your alchemy skills

this is a decent class I made up:

Overlord

race - imperial
Stealth
Edurance/Personality
Maj - Illusion, Security, Long Blade, Mercantile, Speechcraft
Min - Acrobatics, Athletics, Destruction, Marksman, Medium Armor

I was thinking an alternative might also be to remove marksman and insert Restoration, but then you wouldn't have a maj/min skill for agility.

Bismil, how does the spell thing work exactly? Every time I have tried to make a custom spell, putting even a few simple effects together causes my spell chance to go to 0 and the spell cost to become outrageous. Isn't it very expensive to create a spell with all of those effects? I was trying to do something like a shield spell combined with a healing spell, and even though I had decent skills in those areas I couldn't make a useful spell unless I set the duration to very low.

Well first of all my destruction, conguring, illusion, mysticism, and alteration are all 50+ right now with the max (conguring) being 68. If you have one or more schools that are not able to perform the spell you are trying to make it will drop the % possible down. Second, make sure you are not overduing the duration, area effect, and magnitude of the spell. My fire/poison/paralyze spell has stats of the following: 25-35 fire damage (area 0, duration 0), paralize (duration 3 sec, area 0), poison damage 5-10 (area 0, duration 3). It is a touch based spell that cost me around 500 gp and uses up 35 mana a pop. The skill it most pulls from is illusion (mine being 60) and is a 100% cast. If you need any more help or are still confused plz write another message.

Best way to improve magica skills is to make a spell from each area, ie destruction, illusion , so on at a minimal amount that costs 1 mana to cast. Then before you rest use up all your mana on these trainers. You will lvl fast, trust me.
