(Potential Spoiler) Merchant Bug? Gives unlimited money :( |
|
Really they got a few flaws that are pretty easily exploited to level your character up. Basically if a vendor likes you at 100 and you have even a marginal barter skill you can buy stuff and sell it back at a profit. And of course with unlimited money you can train all your skills to max. It would have been better if they made it so a vendor never pays more for something he sells than you pay for it. The only limitation is the vendor only has a limited amount of money.
Oh well, to resist temptation...

Oh man how did they overlook that? I would wonder if they will include a fix to this in a patch. |

I dunno...
I mean, if you buy something at a flea market or garage sale, and then you become good friends with the guy that sold it, he may buy it back for more than he sold it for...
Of course, he wouldn't buy it back that afternoon or anything.. and, he'd have to be an idiot....
OK, so it's an exploit...willpower, my friends!! _________________ Member of the "Fantastic ONE"

I remember playing Vampire:the masquerade on PC and if you had high enough charisma you could get merchants to buy back stuff at a ridiculous amount of profit. The game also had a humanity point scale and I do not remember ever recieving a penalty for doing this. Does Morrowwind penalize for doing this cheat? |

You can also cheat by using the editor or the 400+ published console cheatcodes. I assume anyone who finds this who actually wants to enjoy the game will reload an earlier game. It is a dumb error, however, I agree it shouldn't have gotten into the game. |

This is not a problem, actually. Each merchant only has a certain ammount of money, usually just enough to purchase a nice peice of equipment at your level. If he cannot afford to buy back what you are offering, he won't do it. So it's not any more unlimited money than stealing from houses or raiding crypts is unlimited money - and it does take a while to build up pursuasion to proper levels to quickly pursuade shopkeepers to near-100 - and even then, you'll often have to save-load once or twice, then repeatedly buy the most expensive things, then sell them back after carefully selecting a difference in value repeatedly.
There IS one little bug with shopkeepers though - occasionally, they'll have an item that has a limited number, but will always appear in their inventories in bulk. For alchemists, it will be heal potions, for smiths, it's arrows. Anyway, it you buy all the arrows/health potions a merchant has, then sell them back to him/her, then that merchant will have TWICE as many arrows/whatever than before. This process may be repeated - doubling the number of items each time. It's quite amazing having a pile of 5000+ arrows - you can't even move without really high strength!
:^)

I know this has been said already but Im seconding it. With each vendor having only a certain amount of gold I do not think this Merchant "bug" as you call it is a problem. |
